Those big UT crowds in '83 and '85 were awesome, too, though I suspect the NIU game was extra special because of the whole whole GameDay thing.

'83 UT game was my favorite "crowd" followed by 2003 NIU and 1985 UT. I missed that foirst night game against Akron in 88....I'll bet that was fun.
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

I wasn't at the '83 UT game but did make the '85 UT game...and the '85 Miami Miracle.

Flip, no wonder you missed the first night game against Akron...it was Sept 1989. :-D It was my SR year and I vividly remember sitting in the north end zone at the top of the stands with a flask of whiskey and my cigarettes... Even though we lost, it was a blast.

I really wish I would've gone straight to BG from High School...I would've been there for all of those 2003 games...You know that they say, Heinz-Site is 20/20, and a great place to party!

24,833... 12th biggest. But remember that it was a mid-week game with short notice and bad weather threatening the area.

2003 NIU game was the best. If we had crowds like the Minny game for every game, it would be just perfect.

I love how some fans knock us sometimes. When was the last time College Gameday was in Minny? I have no idea. Maybe it was recent, maybe never? Somebody call the Factline. I don't think most people realize how special that was for us. Have they ever done one at another MAC school?

That was the first & only GameDay appearance at a MAC school. I believe it was also the first appearance at any non-BCS school. I'm not sure if they've returned to a non-BCS venue or not. With the recent success of Fresno, Boise, Hawaii, and Utah they may have hit up another non-BCS venue, but I'm not sure.

Chris Fowler said the BG/NIU Gameday experience was one of the best as far as fan support and excitement up to that time. It was something I will never forget....and hopefully there will be a day when it happens again.

I remeber that as well. I was a sophmore. At a party at a house on Wooster. Got the t-shirt they were giving out. Had a flsak also and kept buying pepsi in the take home cup. Gerry faust was the coach of the Zips then, of course we had Moe :(
