I know you're playing with the percentages and whatnot, but since hindsight is what it is, does Brandon get a break from the torches if he runs up the middle for 2 yards, EMU burns the TO, BG punts and they still go down and score (since, you know, they didn't need the timeout anyway?)??
Paging....
Remember 5-10 years ago when Balls Tate was pretty crappy, UT was at the top of the MAC, but the Rockets couldn't buy a win over the Cardinals with "Gary's" money?Falcon137 wrote:No. Being in that position to EMU at home = pitchforks and angry mobs.
EMU feels like our Ball State. That team has been fugly, yet always bring something against us, even when we were pasting other teams.

I told my wife in the first quarter, "I think they're going to schit the bed tonight. Sheehan has happy feet and sitting on the ball and the defense is not getting any penetration."
Brandon's teams have always been consistent in their inconsistency.

What happened to our pass rush. I don't think I recall sacking their QB once, and when they ran it with #8, it was just as obvious as the "Turner alone in the backfield" plays. He's running. Gosh, who knew.
I think it was pretty obviously that they didn't even practice to play against EMU. Maybe they were practicing plays for a bowl game, which as the season is going along, is looking less and less possible.

ROLL ALONG!!!
Yup, I made that call during the game. From the team that perfected the telegraph play of bringing in a different guy at QB to run the ball, wouldn't you think anyone on the coaching staff shouldn't have seen that coming>footballguy51 wrote:and when they ran it with #8, it was just as obvious as the "Turner alone in the backfield" plays. At what point during the game does a coaching staff figure out that if you only rush 4 guys and haven't put a hand on the QB all day that you might want to bring a linebacker, safety, corner, whatever, a time or two? I guess after they've gone 80 yards in under a minute to score the winning TD. Does EMU have that many gamebreakers that you have to keep 7 guys in coverage all day?
From Coach Brandon:
What happened on the Last scoring drive EMU?
"Well the coverage obviously was awful. We busted the coverage. It was a similar play that they hit us with in the first half on their boundary. It was a critical error at a huge time in the game. It was disappointing that that occurred. We really didn't do a good job getting pressure on him all day. And thats something with a four man rush that we got to be able to do. And if we don't then we have to bring extra guys and that makes it tougher to cover. We went in with the idea that we were going to get pressure with a four man rush and it just didn't happen."

To quote Rob Schneider in the Waterboy "Oh no, we suck again!"
Why do we have so many UGLY losses? This is one of them. The bowl game to Tulsa last year is one. The loss at Temple a few years ago is another. The Mud Bowl game against winless Miami is one too!
Didn't Buffalo get their first 1-A win against us?
That being said, I'll be back for the final 3 games this season. Just not quite as enthusiastic. I have NOT been one of the people calling for Gregg Brandon's head, however I might have to rethink that idea!

"It's not fast food, it's good food quickly!"
This was one of the tougher losses to swallow. We just looked flat, no fire, and we let EMU hang around all game and it cost us big time. Two plays that stood out the most to me. First, when BG was up 7-0 and moving on the drive we missed the first FG, it was 2nd and 10 from the EMU 26 and Sheehan rolled out to the right and we had a receiver wide, I mean WIDE open in the endzone waiving his hands with no EMU defender in site. Sheehan never saw him and threw the ball towards the sidelines incomplete. If Sheehan sees him it's an easy TD. Instead, we get no points there. And second, like many have already pointed out, the Bullock run out of bounds on our drive to try and ice the game. He stay in bounds, EMU takes a TO and we run another play and if we don't get a first down, we punt and EMU gets the ball with probably :30 or so with no timeouts. Instead, he went out, and it really hurt us. Bullock, or anyone in that position, needs to know he's gotta stay in bounds in that kind of situation. I know he was going for yards but him going out of bounds just killed us there. But lastly, at the end, we were up by four and EMU needed a TD and we had a chance to stop them, but they just carved us up on the last drive. Bottom line, EMU outplayed us and deserves to win. If this was "the worst team in the MAC" and we couldn't beat them at home, we've got a long road ahead of us.
GO BG!!!

Bullock bouncing that one outside was a selfish play...he's trying to get yards for himself when at thet point in the game you need to force EMU to take a TO or watch the clock tick by.
On the third down play the smarter thing to do would have been to roll him to the wide side of the field. If something is there you play pitch and catch....if it's not you cut it up and take what you can and then punt.
A key play on their final drive that no one has mentioned was their ball carrier getting out of bounds to stop the clock just past midfield. One of our DL guys..I think it was Briggs, tried to strip the ball instead of just tackling the guy.
But heck..we could take the game apart and find dozens of stupid plays that could have made the differnce...it was an embarrassing effort from top to bottom

It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

Hmm...let's see.
~Play calling was terrible. We had better plays when we played touch football in elementary school. According to freak tonight's playbook was 2 pages and written in crayon; tough to argue that.
~Team was flat. Yet another Gregg Brandon coached team comes out ill prepared to play a football game...big shock.
~Chris Bullock should be punished severely. I don't know what you do to punish him, but his going out of bounds probably cost the team the game.
~The pass on 3rd & 6 was not a big deal. We already f***ed up when Bullock went out of bounds. Making them use the timeout is fine, I guess, but I'd rather be aggressive and go for the first down. This is college ball and first downs stop the clock...teams can use the middle of the field regardless. If Bullock stays in bounds then you pound it and milk the clock.
~I cannot figure out Sheehan. The gameplan looked as though the coaches were afraid to let him throw down field. Then when we did run deeper routes he missed guys right and left. One play in the first half we had a guy doing jumping jacks in the endzone he was so wide open...Tyler never saw him.
~Jermiah Kelly should be running for the next week and a half straight. Everywhere he goes he should be running. On the deflected completion on our final drive he ran a deep route. After the completion he was slowly walking back to the line of scrimmage for about 30 yards. He actually cost us about 5-6 seconds single handedly by not hustling...then again no hustle was the theme of the day.
~Tackling was atrocious. It was as bad as the good ol' days where I'd bemoan it after every game. Every EMU ball carrier made 1-2 guys miss on seemingly every play.
~Oh yeah, in mentioning the defense that last drive for EMU was one of the worst defensive displays I've ever seen. 40 seconds!? 80 yards!? NO TIMEOUTS!?!? Wow...impressive
Unfortunately as Warthog mentioned I'm numb to this crap. It pisses me off during the game, but once it's over it's back to tailgating and hanging with great friends. It's tough to get too worked up and angry about it anymore because I've come to expect it. We're poorly coached and this is what happens. Poor discipline, poor execution, and poor gameplanning...what more is there to say?
