Nice, but FWIW, here's how they've gone 5-0: I-AA Northeastern, Navy, a 2-3 Indiana team, Akron, Kent and Toledo. If I recall, the nationally ranked BG team of 2003 actually beat two other ranked teams.

The media seems to reward a weak non-conference schedule which is exactly why I've always been skeptical of our philosophy of slugging it out every year out of conference. We're 1-1 against ranked opponents on the road this year and where exactly has it gotten us?

If BG took care of business at home, they'd probably be ranked or close to it.

If we'd have won all of our games we'd have a shot at a BCS game. If Sinisa Vrvillo had a bionic leg we could attempt 80 yard field goals.

A 1-loss MAC team has never and would never come close to the Top 25 this early in the season.

Thank you...I actually mentioned that team earlier in the thread as an example of one that played a challenging schedule. One example in 50 years...I'm convinced!

That was also the #5 team in the country on the road. The games that could have supposedly propelled us into the national spotlight this year if we just took care of business were Minnesota and Eastern Michigan at home.

I just don't think that would have been the case.

(One more point. Before someone says "But how can you say Minnesota wasn't a tough enough game to get us respect when you already said our schedule this year was too tough?" Simple. Minnesota is a very good Big 10 team, but doesn't have the national cache to catch the attention of pollsters. Historically, a big fat 0 in the loss column is what does for MAC schools)
