If you want to be negative and complain about every little thing that happens during the game... go ahead. The band will stop playing on offensive plays when the athletic department decides to ask for them to quit. The band is a non-factor on offensive drive. I can guarantee that the Boise State game was plenty loud and BG only had seven penalties for 55 yards.
Why should Sheehan have to even think about the band playing while he is on the field? That was such a dumb post on so many levels. Some people just don't get it, why is BG ok with Brandon? Because some people are ok with mediocrity. This whole theory that the game is for the band also is BS. I hate to use tOSU as an example but......they love their band more than any other team in the country; but, if they were playing Hang On Sloopy while Pryor was trying to call an audible I bet their fans would be pissed off.
As for the AD needing to tell the band they shouldn't have to. It's a football game not a band competition.
I can't recall a single time any band member has posted on this board that they feel or thought in any way that the band was a higher priority than the game play. Not a single person in the band thinks it is a band competition. Most of the people in the band are there because they want to support the sporting events we play at.
I've never heard a band member here say anything about a game being "our stage." there have been hundreds of people however, especially in the last four years, who have said thank goodness the band did a great job today.
Don't for one second think we enjoy playing sweet caroline.
Bassdrummin, take it easy man. We are looking for anything we can get hold of to criticize right now. The band gave them an easy target at the end of the fourth quarter when we screwed up a couple times.
Agree 100% on the cannon being fired on KO returns and the band playing while the ball is in play. The band is great halftime entertainment. The band is great to hear during time outs. The band should put a sock in it when the ball is in play.
Add to the list of annoynaces..the f**king roadrunner "beep beep" after first downs. We're the FALCONS, not the Roadrunners....
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

Its all money on the beep beep. Time warner is probably paying us a boat load for that.

the only reason people go to football games for the smaller schools in the south is for the band. osu's traditional style band is boring and the dot the I thing is way overrated. you want a school that really cares about their band try florida a&m.

So we are like Florida A&M? Are we a smaller school? I'm confused about your argument.

Money that could've been spent paying to still carry Fox 36
Seriously, I didn't mean this thread to just bitch about the band; I like the band and I appreciate all the hard work they put in. I do hate Sweet Caroline, but having talked with band members, I know they are being told to play that no matter how much they dislike it. I just wanted to mention that the drum majors need to make sure they're done playing before the teams are lining up.
The wave sucks too, as Niz said in another spot, I think it really detracts from the game.
Our band has always been one of the most knowledgeable bands in the MAC about when to play and when not to play. Go to Miami or Toledo or Ball State or OU. They NEVER stop playing when the opponent is up to the line. Or for The Love of God, WISCONSIN!
I pay attention to that kind of stuff and you must have noticed one tiny thing.... I missed your problem. I wish the PA people would shut the EFF up with their music crap and let the band be the band. But they forgot to put me in charge of the world this week. Obviously, it wasn't your week either.
The band is being asked to be MORE of the football experience by being over by the tents and playing during the player walk in.
DISCLAIMER- Was never in a band- high school or college.
That show yesterday was beyond awesome! Everyone around me was wowed and LOVED the exit from the field.
As a prior drum major, it's not as easy as you think it is. The timing was the same back 20 years. Most of the songs were cut off at the correct time.
People complain when the band plays; they complain when they don't play. Think about this, if the playing bothers the players at ANY TIME, the AD would be the first one to let the directors know about it. That word has not come.
I honesty think there is a void of logic on this board.

Let's not bring Time Warner Cable into this. They are one of the biggest sponsors of Falcon sports.
I like that steak comes from cows. That is why a cow will not think twice about eating you.
Late to the whine party but here are mine not otherwise mentioned -
- The uncomfortable "orange" seats on the west side. I paid a premium for a terrible seat.
- Parking - I get out there early to avoid the $5 charge. How much income does the A.D. lose by not having a crew out early on Saturday morning or charging the folks that drop a camper off on Friday night? Does the A.D. even get this money or is it the University? Either way, it wouldn't be a windfall, but it would be a nice little bit of change each year.
- Golf course porta-a-john - we were tailgating on the north side of the field very close to 14 tee yesterday. After the game, there was a guy from the golf course guarding the john telling people that they couldn't use it. As I pulled out of the lot, I saw a lady with her two young girls walk toward the john and then walk away after speaking to the guy. Gimme a break.

Me personally, nope. I will always hate the wave win or lose. I will always think firing that cannon off in the middle of the play is ridiculously low brow (and should probably be a penalty). The PA announcer has been the same win or lose for years and he's always been terrible.
My complaints have nothing to do with the football game and everything to do with trying to feel like a big time program. Having a PA guy who cannot pronounce your players' names is something from a bad HS. Firing the cannon in the middle of plays is just plain bad sportsmanship.
It's tough to fix the product on the field. These other things are little things that can be done to improve a gameday experience.
Hammb, I'm with you on all of that. I don't like the cannon being fired off at random after touchdowns. But in all honesty though, the percussion do a little cadence thing (which has been done for as long as I can remember) during the kick-off and I think the cannon being fired off is to try to go along with that. I don't honestly know...but either way, it should stop.
But yeah...at this point, we just need to move on and look towards Akron. I really hate to be Akron right now...BG just came off of a tough loss at home, we are better on the road then we are at home. I hope we just make a statement and get people to forget about that emu game.
