Brandon said BG overlooked EMU

Post by BGSU33 »

From Ryan’s blog: Coach had quite a bit to discuss at today’s press conference and it’s obvious he isn’t over Saturday’s loss yet. He admitted that the team overlooked EMU….

This simply drives me nuts every time I hear a coach/team admit this, especially BG. First of all, I know it’s difficult to get a team up for each and every game. But that being said, one of the main priorities of a coaching staff is to prepare your team to the fullest for your next opponent. It’s what you’re supposed to be doing the entire week leading up to that game. Further, who in the world do we think we are that we can even afford to overlook anyone, especially a conference opponent? Year in and year out BG has recorded its share of BCS wins, but year in and year out, we’ve also been nipped in @ss by a MAC school along the way to shoot down our MAC title hopes. If we go 0-4 in our non-conference games but 8-0 in the MAC each year, we're in the MAC Championship and a bowl each and every year. The MAC is and has been our real season every year, it just blows my mind to even think we are overlooking anyone in this crazy conference. Every week, every year you see teams like Stanford over USC, or Ole Miss over Florida, or an FCS (I-AA) team over an FBS (I-A) team. You've gotta be ready no matter who it is.

But here’s the kicker, when you go over to the BG website, your get to see a quote from Brandon that reads like this: "We've got to understand that in preparation it doesn't matter what that team looks like on film, they're going to bring their A game every time they play Bowling Green because we were picked to win the East. We've had the bulls-eye on our chest. We're one of the top programs in the MAC, and everybody wants to beat Bowling Green. It seems like when somebody does knock us off, it's a career win for the guy or the program, and that's the way it is. Our guys need to understand that. It doesn't matter who we play we've got to show up with the same intensity if we're playing Pitt or Boise or whomever in this league. The difference is, in the MAC, there is familiarity because you see the teams year-in and year-out. They've got a book on you, you've got a book on them. It's not like going out to Wyoming, where you don't know anything about them."

This is exactly the kind of thing I hope our team hears before every game and it makes you wonder if they hear this at all before last week. We’ve now got seven MAC games to get ourselves into the MAC Championship, bowl game, etc. I guess we’ll see during that time if we are the best team in the MAC East or not.
GO BG!!!

The coaches showed absolutely no emotion on the sideline during the game, nor did the team. Leadership is severely lacking from the coaches right on down.

Yes in deed! Coaches should be telling these kids they only have so many games left in their career. So make the most of them! Go kick some butt!

In related news, stocks are down, the grass is still green, and FalconBoy is dreaming of dating a 7' 350lb Amazonian center with a 36" vertical.

She's only about 5' 8" and 145lbs...but Gina Carano is pretty inspiring...
