Letdown games against inferior opponents happen. It's very common throughout college football and nobody is immune to it. It's very difficult to get a bunch of 18-22 year old kids to believe the mediocre team they're watching on film can actually beat them. It happens to all coaches throughout the college ranks. This is why the EMU game really doesn't upset me as much as games past, it happens from time to time.

What is frustrating about the Brandon led teams is twofold. For starters most good teams find a way to overcome these letdown games and still WIN. Yes, I know Florida & USC suffered defeats this year, but usually the well coached teams will find a way to prevail in games that are closer than they should be. For whatever reason we don't seem to be able to win our "down" games nearly as much as other teams do.

Secondly, and more importantly, we have let down games even when they're not against the likes of EMU. Year after year we have consistently come out lethargic in some of the biggest games of the season. NIU in '04, WMU in '05, Miami in '03 & '07, etc. It's very frustrating when you not only consistently lose trap games, but also get shellacked in games that are obvious biggies as well.

It just sucks, but I've come to expect this inconsistency and mediocrity from the program. I still go to the games and have fun, but I just don't let the games get me mad anymore. Until we get some leadership in this program it will continue to be more of the same.

Agreed. I find myself feeling the same way about games now...I have to not get as involved as I once did, if that makes any sense.

I remember in the early 90s that we would win the MAC games but could never get that major conference win. Now it is the opposite. I'll tell you what, I would rather win a MAC title than have a win over Pittsburgh, but I feel like if we were ever consistent enough to win the MAC, those other wins would come.

I'm in agreement with hammb's comments in regard to letdowns. the one point I would add is this. Most coaches will recognize the situation at halftime that the opponent is going to make a game of it and will take action to motivate his team. Many times, you will see the favored team in those situations come out and dominate the third quarter. We don't don't do that. We remain flat the entire game and then look at the scoreboard and realize we lost a game that shouldn't have even been close.
