Falcons Add Two Transfers

Goins, Graves join BGSU program; will sit out 2008-09 season.

Oct. 8, 2008

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (BGSUFalcons.com) - Bowling Green State University men's basketball coach Louis Orr has announced the addition of two student-athletes to the Falcon program. Darion Goins and Adrion Graves, both transfers from other NCAA Division-I institutions, are currently enrolled in school at the University, and will sit out the 2008-09 season per NCAA regulations.

"We are pleased that Darion and Adrion have chosen to join the Falcon family," said Orr. "They give us two more guys who can create plays on the wing."

Both Goins and Graves are natives of Cincinnati, Ohio. Orr, assistant coach George Jackson and Falcon redshirt sophomore Chris Knight all hail from Cincinnati as well.

Goins, after sitting out the 2008-09 season, will have two years of eligibility remaining. He spent the last two years at San Jose State University. A 6-3 guard, Goins played in all 30 games as a freshman in 2006-07, making six starts. He averaged 3.3 points and 1.3 rebounds per game that winter, scoring a season-high 16 points vs. UC Santa Barbara and matching that total vs. Cal Poly.

As a sophomore in '07-08, Goins played in 19 games off the bench, averaging 0.6 points per game. He played two seasons at North College Hill High School in Cincinnati, helping the team to a 48-2 record during that time. Goins also played one year at Harmony Prep School in 2005-06, with that team going 29-3.

"Darion is a slasher, and a big-time athlete for his size," said Orr. "He is very strong, and he knows how to create plays on the wing and score the ball."

Graves, a 6-4 shooting guard, comes to BGSU from Xavier University in his hometown. Graves, like Goins, will have two seasons of eligibility remaining after sitting out 2008-09.

Graves, a graduate of Hughes Center High School, played in 34 games last season, averaging 8.1 minutes, 1.9 points and 1.0 rebounds per game as the Musketeers set a school record with 30 wins and advanced all the way to the NCAA Elite Eight.

He missed much of his freshman season, 2006-07, due to injury, but averaged 3.2 points and 1.0 boards in 13 games off the bench. This year, he scored a career-high nine points against both American and Detroit.

"Adrion has a chance to be a very good scorer," said Orr. "He is a good passer, can make plays and make shots on his own, and he has a chance to be a very good defender for us as well."

The Falcons welcome back all 10 letterwinners from last season's team, plus one additional student-athlete who lettered for BGSU in previous seasons. Orr and the Falcons posted a 13-17 overall record and a 7-9 Mid-American Conference mark a season ago.

Well, dammit, it's a fair question. AFAIK, the scholly count for next year 15. WTF? Are guys paying their own way to play for coach Orr? Dusan can only leave the program once.

I can't even begin to describe how refreshing it is to read about guys transferring to BG, instead of transferring from BG, again. The last five or six years, all we ever did from year to year was rebuild because we kept losing players. Now, it looks as though we're going to be able to finally start reloading and that's very exciting news around here. I can't wait to see both of these guys in uniform next year. Welcome to BG!

I think that's a clumsy way to refer to Marschall. Nice to see that the only "Go-ins" in the news this year is a transfer into the program.

It's Brian Guerin most likely. I heard last season he would be back this one. If not him, maybe Alvin Freeman made the team again. I know he wanted to get back on as well.

No, it's Marschall. Not Freeman, not Guerin, not RADionavojevic. They had 10 players letter last year -- Marschall sat out with the injury, so he didn't earn a letter in 2007-08, but he earned letters in each of the two years before that. Neither Marschall nor the phrasing seems clumsy to me :)

Ah, forgot about that as I was told he probably would never play again. Good call.
