Bad news that's good news

Post by rood »

Michigan lost Mark Mitera to a knee injury Friday night and Notre Dame lost their back up goalie, Brad Phillips, to a knee injury in the pre-season. Early reports are that they will both be out for the whole season. I'm not glad these kids got hurt but anything that levels the playing field in the CCHA can't be all bad.

Mitera was going to be Michigan's captain this year and probably their top defenseman so that's a big blow. Notre Dame still has Jordan Pearce so they shouln't be hurting too bad in net.

I know Pearce can handle the job but if he should go down for some reason they are toast. Their other goalies have never played a minute of college hockey and probably never will if Pearce stays healthy.

Michigan also just lost a defenseman, Steve Kampfer, for at least two months from what I've read on some UM sites, after this gutless attack by a scrub UM football player.
