Ryan's bloggin' hoops

Post by TG1996 »

Touches on a lot of different threads from around here, including the now-former Cincy area recruits. Good stuff Ryan!

Also, he clears up the scholarship "confusion" for you guys who are up nights counting....
The staff is probably done recruiting for this year. Moten, Miller and Clements come off the books at the end of the season and will be replaced by Danny McElroy (Cincinnati prep kid who originally committed to UC), Luke Kraus (Findlay kid who had a great summer) and Adrion Graves (transfer from Xavier who was a top 100 recruit coming out of high school). Darren Goodson, who committed to BG several months ago, no longer has scholarship waiting after he was arrested last month in Cincinnati. Goodson was cleared of all charges but apparently the coaching staff did not see this as an isolated incident. Incidentally, Goodson’s high school teammate Cortez Howell, who committed to BG on the same day as Goodson, will not be attending the university either. Darion Goins (formerly of San Jose State) will sit out this year due to transfer rules before becoming eligible next season. He is not on scholarship

BG will be the class of the MAC if Orr can keep recruiting SW Ohio.

Agreed, but he's got some serious competition down there in Charlie Coles... not to mention Dayton, Cinci, Xavier, Wright State... it's chocked with decent schools with good hoops traditions.

Keep bringing them up to NW Ohio, coach!!

Being from Cincy there are a lot of quality players down here in the 2010 class. Hopefully they can get a few.

Why would Brown or Thomas redshirt this year? If some of the current players play like they did last year in certain instances those two could see early minutes. Ex. if Clements continues to turn the ball over and if Sims decides to not show up like he often did not last year. The real question is what is going on with Calhoun what's his situation he didn't even come until the school year started.

Did you read Ryan's blog? (link in the first post)

Austin Calhoun (He’s A’uston on the roster. Don’t know what that’s about) has some classroom issues to clear up, so I’m not sure of his status with the team except that he is definitely part of the plans (but that could mean future plans).

Funny how there is no mention of Nate Miller not being around during the summer. Hopefully some of these issues can hold out so he has a productive senior season.

Brown redshirting doesn't sound right. We'll clearly need his depth at PG.

Thomas, OTOH, sounds like he could use year in the weight room. 183 lbs on a 6-6 frame is skinny. Thing is, he doesn't have the pre-college pedigree to make it seem worth the wait. Is his upside all that high?

The idea of waiting for Austin Calhoun is heartbreaking.

I have to think he was around, even if he didn't live up here it's only a 2 hour drive from Springfield.

This is the quote I find interesting;

"Moten came off the bench because he was thriving in that role and there was no sense of messing with what was working. Polk had foul troubles and conditioning issues, so I think the staff was afraid to give him more minutes than he could handle."

I hope Moten doesn't try to do to much and Polk can stay out of foul trouble.
