The Attendance
Should be as close to 0 as possible the rest of the season. It's time to tell this program that we're mad as hell, and until the team actually puts forward an effort worth watching and being proud of at home, we're not coming. I'm sick and tired of wasting my time at these games watching our asshole players and coaches not giving a care when they fall behind. All you ever see is our guys sitting on the bench with their heads hung low, or them standing in a half-shrugged position. And the coaches do nothing about it, they never tell them to pull themselves up and play. There's no passion, no heart, no desire to succeed on this team. NONE!
I'm officially on boycott.

Hopefully this leads to the always entertaining "what makes a real fan!?" debate.bgsufalcon24 wrote:Should be as close to 0 as possible the rest of the season. For those of us who live far away, every trip to DLP Stadium is to be savored. I don't think anything could ever make me "boycott." For me at least, it's more about enjoying myself at BGSU than it is a group of particular players or coaches. Maybe I'm just wired differently, but winning a football game plays second to enjoying Bowling Green when I can get back. I love BG sports, and I'm always intense about winning and extremely disappointed right now, but it was still great to see the Doyt filled up today. The lean times suck, but it's still more fun to be a lifetime fan through them than a fairweather fan. I enjoyed the whole afternoon until Sheehan threw that pick and the aftermath. (That was a great play by the MU DB btw). Oh well. Hopefully our solid road play will continue next week.
Because it's fun?cph2133 wrote:Agreed. When it's tough to get fans to a winning team in nice weather, why would anyone come to a losing team in November?dforde wrote:What was the official attendance today? It certainly was not full. We won't break 10K in attendance the rest of the way. What an incredibly disappointing game!!

I actually think our attendance has been very good this year, and further, it's been GREAT if you consider what the home fans have actually had to watch unfold. Home game after home game we continue to shoot ourselves in the foot while giving fans reasons not to come back. The fact we're averaging close to 20,000 while going 0-3 has been very good in my book. The student turnover was great for Minnesota and has been very good for EMU and Miami.
GO BG!!!

We had more parents and families in the student section yesterday than I've ever see. I honestly don't think our student turnout was good at all. Early games with osu playing at 3:30 keeps a lot of them at home.BGSU33 wrote:The student turnover was great for Minnesota and has been very good for EMU and Miami.

No, I think the problem was that with all those families in attendance, the students were scattered all over the stadium and weren't sitting/standing in their normal spot. I saw plenty of other students there, probably not like Minnesota, but comparable to EMU two weeks ago.Metz wrote:We had more parents and families in the student section yesterday than I've ever see. It's okay though, they won't be coming back anymore. Our freshman class of 2008 is probably stained, they all think we suck now. I have to wonder if this will affect our student attendance the next 3 years running. You only have one chance to make a first impression, and the team f'ed that up big time.

NY-BG-FAN, thank you for that excellent post. Being in a similar position, I was just about to express almost the exact same sentiments.NY-BG-FAN wrote: Hopefully this leads to the always entertaining "what makes a real fan!?" debate.

I'm competitive to a fault and long to see BG not only win, but destroy every opponent they face, so this current stretch might actually be more upsetting to me as it is for any of the most virulent Brandon haters.
However, when you're denied the opportunity to get back to campus and catch a home game because of job-related/geographic reasons for an extended period of time, much of that frustration seems to disappear in favor of simply soaking in the gameday atmosphere again and seeing a competitive game involving the team you care about.

NY and Joe, I agree. I love the experience of "seeing" every game and everything that goes with the day. I love making as many games as possible- home or away. I also understand the frustration of other posters; I am extremely disappointed with our effort and our execution. And now our discipline. Make that bitterly disappointed.
So I am in all camps- but I'll be attending the games and supporting BG.
NIU game will be very interesting. Very tough place to play. We can see just what we have on our coaching staff and team next Saturday in my opinion. It is amazing that we have done so well on the road- even at Boise. This week might tell us a lot.
Go Falcons!
