Seems to me that the head coach and starting QB may not be on the same page, discipline-wise.

Here is a true character quote from GB;

"What you do in the heat of battle on the football field, and how you are off the field, I don’t know if they tie together.”

On the flip side I love this quote from Tyler;

"But stuff that happens off the field is showing on the field as well.”

And this just leaves me scratching my head;

Tyler added that the coaching staff instituted a zero tolerance policy at the beginning of the season in response to the messy offseason.

Was this before the season as in, the week before the Pitt game, the day before, the hour before?

Does the team band together from here on out? Or do they continue to fall apart? Tough to tell from history since two years ago they just gave up on the year, and then last year they won out to make a bowl but then didn't show up for that bowl.

Oh Brandon, Hello?? It always ties together. On every level from PEE WEE to the pro's you can see how "they" tie together.

Who's doing the searching here?

After Brandon's comment there, don't be surprised if Tyler rides the bench or is on a very short leash. You know how Brandon is with dog houses.

Early in the season after the relatively light disciplinary actions against a couple of players, an insider told me there was quite a bit of dissension on the team amongst the "good guys." The guys who never get into trouble, keep their noses clean, and work their AZZ's off to make this team the best it can be.

It sounded like a lot of them were just fed up with the "Some animals are more equal than others" paradigm (my apologies to George Orwell).

This is kind of what it SMELLS like might still be going on. And a team divided, no matter how hard it's ignored by the coaching staff, is not a good team.

I was told the very same thing last year, by an "insider". I think that thought is very prevelant among the players. I am not saying everyone has to be treated exactly the same, but there can not be a big discrepancy in how some players are given a "pass" at certain times.
The problem may be that the staff does not do a good job of developing leadership on the team and none of the players (captains) feel they can go to the coaches and let this be known. They have to feel free to go to the coaches at anytime with problems that exist among the team, that they are not capable of handling themselves.

Hmmm...interesting.

Coach was on 1470 yesterday evening, as he is every Monday, and he talked about Tyler's comments then. Apparently they had one kid that didn't show up for a training session, and one kid that overslept and was late to a meeting. He didn't comment on the radio on whether or not he disciplined these players or if he thought that was carrying on into the game. He did say that he had mixed feelings about Tyler's comments saying that he liked him to show the leadership, but disliked airing it in the media. He mentioned that they had a talk about it, I wonder if that was before or after Tyler re-affirmed his comments yesterday?

Either way if Coach Brandon doesn't feel that off the field discipline carries onto the field he's full of it. As FWF said it always carries over at every level of football. That's especially true if some kids feel as though the wrong-doers are not being properly disciplined. Then you've got one group of players that lacks discipline and another group of players that resents the first group...NOT GOOD.

Hopefully they'll get their crap together, because they're still in this thing if they can win out. I'm not holding my breath though. Despite the wealth of talent, I'm starting to think we're just not a very good football team. Things like this are a large reason why.

I may take issue with Sheehan's play on the field aometimes, but I totally respect him for stepping up in this situtation and telling what he thinks is the problem. It's a shame that the coach can't see this.

And I agree, how you represent yourself off the field is how you respresent yourself on the field. You disrespect your teammates by skipping meetings, showing up late, etc, you will disresprect them on the field as well. You don't change your personality just because you stepped onto the playing field. You are who you are, both off and on the field.

It's got to be across the board. Speaking of the "pee wee" level ... I've called out my son and other other coaches' sons when necessary if they dogged a play or a drill. There are no favorites. There can't be.

One thing I always liked about the Urban Legend was his iron-fisted discipline. I've emphasized to Noah time and again that playing football the the Division I-A level is a privilege and must be treated as such. That means you need to earn it every day, in every way.

Ryan's blog has shown me a coach who is out of touch. He may be a good X and O man, but the people skills. i.e. fairness, even handedness, interpersonal communications, needed to be a coach are apparently lacking. Unfortunately, the staff normally resembles the boss which does not speak well of our staff. Even Elisha couldn't help this out.

This has been fairly obvious ever since he started giving press conferences. The Brandon backers around here always defended his ridiculous comments as being "just talk in the media", and chastised some of us for getting upset about something so trivial.

He just doesn't seem to get what running a good program is all about. Maybe someday he will.

What's most upsetting to me is that the little things like discipline and whatnot have not improved, while the X & O part has actually gotten worse. Our playcalling the past few seasons has really gotten super predictable. Defensively we've never really done anything creative X & O wise either.

It's a very frustrating time to be a BG football fan. I think we all know the talent is there, but for whatever reason it just isn't able to get the job done. Undisciplined football, lack of fire/focus, and predictable playcalling have been killing this team.

The lack of discipline is what bothers me the most. I can live with lousy play calling because it may work at times. However, needless personal foul, illegal motion and delay of game penalities are disheartning. Now to hear that off field behavior doesn't affect on field behavior is downright frightening. It's like saying a guy who beats his girlfriend while they are dating, doesn't mean he will beat her when they are married. There is no correlation. Any introductory sociology or psychology class will point out that the two are correlated. Maybe Brandon chose to avoid those classes in college.
