"Locking the Gate"

Post by falcons86 »

According to Coach Brandon in the Toledo Blade today, "locking the gate" won't be happening anymore. He attributed it more to the throwdown that almost happened between the BG and Miami players instead of it being quite embarrassing, as we are 0-3 at home.

Brandon's last quote in this article pretty much sums him up IMO. Sheehan mentioned the lack of discipline and he attributes some of it to the off-field problems.

However, according to Brandon: "Oh, I think he's just searching for something. It's frustration. That's Tyler's opinion. I don't know if they necesarily tie together. What you do in the heat of battle on the football field, and how you are off the field, I don't know if they tie together."

Are you kidding me? I have a problem with that quote. That just shows how laxed the leadership on this team is. I do commend Tyler for calling people out. Hell, we need someone to light a fire under this team. Brandon sure as hell won't.

Did anyone ever own up to starting this "tradition"? I'm kind of sorry I never made it into the stadium to witness this spectacular intimidation technique. I bet it really lifted the faithful season ticket holders out of thier bleachairs because they usually seem to tired to stand by the time I make it to my seat.

It used to be a couple captains or seniors that went over after both teams had entered the field. It started a year or two ago I think. For some reason, the entire team did it for the Minny and Miami games.

I used to enjoy the team entrance onto the field. Guys would be bouncing around and they all really looked ready to play the game. This year's team jogs onto the field and doesn't really get the crowd into the game. The poor quality of play and lack of energy from players and coaching staff keeps the crowd at the energy level of a Nationwide Tour tournament.

Brandon's last comment only tells me that he is unable to either spin something without sounding like a twit and is also in utter denial, or that he really doesn't know what is going on in his own program.

The more he opens his mouth the worse it gets. :?

I dont believe I have ever heard a more irresponsible or flat out embarrassing comment by a college football coach. That is the kind of thing you expect out of a HS, maybe even a MS coach. To say that your actions off the field "may not" affect your actions on the field is just ignorant. A pathetic attempt to cover up a serious problem that even us fans recognize.
