Hopefully this leads to the always entertaining "what makes a real fan!?" debate.

For those of us who live far away, every trip to DLP Stadium is to be savored. I don't think anything could ever make me "boycott." For me at least, it's more about enjoying myself at BGSU than it is a group of particular players or coaches. Maybe I'm just wired differently, but winning a football game plays second to enjoying Bowling Green when I can get back. I love BG sports, and I'm always intense about winning and extremely disappointed right now, but it was still great to see the Doyt filled up today. The lean times suck, but it's still more fun to be a lifetime fan through them than a fairweather fan. I enjoyed the whole afternoon until Sheehan threw that pick and the aftermath. (That was a great play by the MU DB btw). Oh well. Hopefully our solid road play will continue next week.

NY-BG-FAN, thank you for that excellent post. Being in a similar position, I was just about to express almost the exact same sentiments.

I'm competitive to a fault and long to see BG not only win, but destroy every opponent they face, so this current stretch might actually be more upsetting to me as it is for any of the most virulent Brandon haters.

However, when you're denied the opportunity to get back to campus and catch a home game because of job-related/geographic reasons for an extended period of time, much of that frustration seems to disappear in favor of simply soaking in the gameday atmosphere again and seeing a competitive game involving the team you care about.

Well I guess the problem is that my living quarters are just too close to DLP. I can go there any time I want.

That said, it was a better crowd than expected, and frankly I hope lots of people come out and see what is going on. I'll likely go and watch the last two games, maybe, but I took the games off the table as a priority if Liz and the Kids have anything else going on. I saw certain things this past week which from a people-watching point of view, especially with the topic of Brandon becoming the focus of the crowds frustration, I'd like to observe.

Over the years, I've seen player parents try to "diffuse" hecklers among the Falcon Club tent and beyond before, not unlike coaches wives. Indeed, I've seen it with all the major sports. I'm not sure I've seen crowds in the stands, Falcon Club members, and folks in general as curiously unhappy. Nor have I seen people totally unmoved by the player parents elbowing themselves into view when the comments are made. I watched people visually note who was around them and actually amplify their comments until the others left.

This won't be pretty as it comes to an end, be it sooner or later. If I were a backer of the staff, what would unnerve me more than the cat calls would be the amazing silence. There is an unusual level of level headed, quite, and firmly resolved feelings about things right now.

Thanks- we appreciate the revenue. Every little bit helpds and your refusal to support the Falcons at home gives us just a little teeny bit of an edge in recruiting and finances. We can use it! I suggest more BG fans take this approach...

I'm a true fan. This is my last year as a BGSU student. I support the BGSU football team and all BGSU sports. I support the athletes, as my peers, my classmates, and in many cases, my friends. And you're suggesting that I don't show up?

I too am equally frustrated with this Bowling Green team. But I'm not gonna let that keep me from the games, and in fact I'm planning on sending in my housing deposit and becoming part of the BG family!

Well, I guess it's different if you know the players personally. Certainly in a situation like that you would want to come out and support your good friends. I get that. (I personally think that having friends and family in the stands gets into our players heads and that play like crap as a result, but I digress) But for somebody like me, who doesn't know any of the players on a personal basis, that motivation just isn't there. All I see are a bunch of other students I have no relation to, many of them malcontents on and off the field that the school is paying their money out to to play football. And in return, we're getting a bunch of s**t in return for our continued devotion and fandom.

And I'm in the same boat as you, my last year as a student at BG. This was supposed to be our year, at least within the East Division. But now the year has gone up in flames. Only winning out saves us now, and I'm NOT holding my breath for that.

I am actually a student so you are getting PLENTY of revenue from me thank you very much. All I was saying is that as long as the Ath. Dept. is still getting a steady stream of revenue, quite frankly, they are not going to rush to correct problems within the program. That is not to say that they will not fix it, but when it doesnt affect revenue it takes a back seat.

First of all, obviously you should support your friends. I apologize if my comment in any way suggested that you shun your friends because they have lost a couple games.

Second of all, you have no right to tell me Im not a true fan. I have always supported this program and the "hard working" guys on the team. I was rooting for the falcons when i was 15 years old and i lived 3 hours away. I love the way BG teams keep fighting hard, even when the chips are down. I love how BG teams win and lose with dignity. I AM a true BG fan, have no doubt about that.

That being said, why would i not go to the games if im a true fan? B/c i recognize what is going on this season. No offense or disrespect intended, but this program is going down the drain fast this year. Off the field trouble, on the field trouble. Coaching staff being completely unprepared. Players showing no heart, no emotion (not implying this to every player). Being late to meetings, missing practice. This shows me that some (its unclear how many) players do not care. The level of preparedness by the coaching staff implies that they don't care. Im sure many of them work hard, long hours but when it comes down to it the job is not getting done.

Since I am on the outside looking in, I cannot say who is to blame for these troubles but i will say one thing: a team that shows no dignity, class, concern, motivation, is a team i cannot support with my presence. And for whatever reason this team appears, to me, to be doing just that. Just my opinion.

Now I do realize that this may be true, its when people start throwing that word boycott around it reminds me of the time Lions fans tried it a few years ago or whenever a Cincy fans throw it around for our piece of s**t teams and they never work. Just a thing of mine that when i hear {insert sports team} and boycott I cringe cause they never actually work because some still show up, guess thats just me though.

As for me, I'll be at the final two games, I just can't sit in my apartment or be doing something else around town knowing there is a game going on at the stadium. I would rather be at a sporting event featuring the worst team ever then doing something else somewhere, thats just how I am
