Impressive, considering it was only 27-7 at half. Heh. And you guys call that a comeback.h2oville rocket wrote:After BG's 28th point ...

Oh ring-off H20, UT is no better off than BG right now ---- atleast BG beat one reputable team (Pitt). UT lost to the lowest of the bottom feeders in Florida International. And yes, you beat Michigan in what may be their worst year in the history of the game in Ann Arbor. Actually, you beat a name, not a team. --- It would appear that both universities are struggling right now on the grid-iron. UT because they're terribly young and inexperienced and BG because they're undisciplined. Good teams don't make t he kinds of mistakes that BG is making --- and the b uck stops with the coaching staff. I can only imagine what Kent State is gonna do to the Falcons on Sat. if they come into Doyt with a potent running game, and BG doesn't counter with a change in their defensive and offensive postures, it could be an embarrassment. So even without the fumbles and penalities, BG is gonna be in for a ru n.
Indeed, that is the sad part. That BGSU won't do a darned thing until a contract is up is what hurts. It means "supporting" BGSU football is effectively a charitable act to an institution that simply gives zero priority to the outward face of its athletics programs. When the occasional lunitic argues BGSU should drop to 1AA where it can afford to play, situations like this lend a backhanded credibility to the suggestion. Since BGSU plays the highest level of the game, yet is content to allow excuses to constantly cover for the lack of will to compete as an institution, maybe it shouldn't be trying.Dr. Reality wrote:Brandon has been a controversial figure from day one in spite of the fact t hat he's had some good years particularly when Omar was at the helm. Left unto his own recruits, however, especially at strategic positions, and the team has been inconsistent/struggled. When we were up 28 to ? at the end of the half at UT a couple of years ago, and they came back to beat us, I was stunned by the failure of the coaching staff to make adjustments. Anymore, failure to adjust has become an integral part of the program. E. Michigan was classic. They came into the stadium with a real game-plan, exploiting BG's weaknesses ---- and BG wasn't able to do a damn thing about it. It's like there was no sense of creativity , adjustment, change in the routine. They just kept doing the same damn things and getting the same results. ------- Now, I can only imagine what Kent State is gonna do to BG on Sat. It could be an embarrassing slaughter.
As far the the coach is concerned, t here ain't nothin gonna happen until the attendance figures drop to 0, then maybe somebody might think about an overhall. And division I coaches know what it's all about when they take the job --- produce or leave. So I don't feel sorry for 'em. Many, of course, laugh all the way to the bank.
BGSU is not Kent State, which institutionally seems able to accept its place as purpetual laggard. But when a school is like BGSU, or a Miami, and god help me for saying it, even UT, you don't or shouldn't allow a program to malinger like this. Oh, you can say enrollment is down, the money isn't there, or a dozen excuses why the school "can't" buy him out, but they don't hold up. When BG finally cared enough to step-up and move forward with massive upgrades to basketball, millions pour out of the sky. People were waiting to support the programs, wanted to see that sign before simply lumping money on a table. BGSU as an institution acts like a scared child sometimes, frightened to make a bold move, ask for hard cash to do unpleasant knife work.
Yes, somebody can and will make the blind arguments in favor of Brandon. It tells you something about where we are in this cycle, that the rarely heard from members of the board, even people with no previous posts, are suddenly making the blind statements of faith in Brandon, calling on others to support him because of their "support" of BGSU, equating one with the other.
Mistakes happen, BGSU made one with the hiring of Greg Brandon as head coach. Urban's coat tails bought him some results, and the trajectory has been down ever since. The good has bought enough cover to keep opinions like my own and others from carrying the day, but the reality is bearing them out. It isn't pleasant, contrary to the belief of some, neither I or most others take enjoyment from this.
The measure of how much BGSU learned from Blackney's final years will be in what they do now. Negative as it is to say, it is a valid question to ask how much time and money should be given in support to an institutions willingness to accept poor results with student, alumni, and community money and time.
In another thread:
This is the most flawed thinking I've yet to see here. It is the highest form of the misguided thinking that called for contract extensions and blind support based on faith which has been systematically betrayed.RobbyFalcon wrote:Coach B is a Falcon.
I support the Falcons.
Therefore I support Coach B.
Coach Brandon is an employee of BGSU. He coaches FOR the Falcons, and maybe he considers himself one. But his is a duty of holding the program in trust for Falcons, be they students, players, alumni, or supporters. And he is failing in his duty. If you support the Falcons, you should want better than we are seeing. If you think Brandon is the answer, so be it. But the evidence only grows that he is not the head coach BGSU deserves.

I'm glad you know so much. Because you just called a upstanding lass of this board a "tool." I'm not sure that is proper protocol. It certainly isn't dignified interaction with the female of our species.poorlycoachedbgsu wrote:because i speak the truth? you're a tool.SaxyIrishTenor wrote:Sorry, but you don't get to choose who posts and who doesn't. You also claimed that I was a Brandon apologist.
You also assume that you were the first person in the history of Falcon athletics to question the coaching.
My advise to you: read more, post less. We will all be happier. And that will be my final resonse to you. From here on out, just assume I disagree with everything you post.

From Ryan's Blog...
Lastly, I know everyone is disappointed about how this season has shaken out. I don’t blame you. But it’s only sports, so try to keep that in perspective. Whether BG goes 12-0 or 0-12 you still have to wake up the next morning and go to work. Sports are entertainment for fans; they’re supposed to be enjoyable. Obviously this season hasn’t been enjoyable, but hey, it’s only sports.

Amen to that... I think I say it at least once a season. Remember people, there's more important things in life than BG Football. Don't take it so seriously.
