2008/2009, Year of the Undefeated Regular Season?

Post by Falconboy »

I think its within reach. It would not be easy by any stretch but our non-conference schedule is the easiest on paper that we've had in a while. We have a ton of talent returning. I may be dreaming B!G but I think its worthy of discussion. What say ye?

Anything's possible, but I don't think it'll happen the way the rest of the league is gunning for us.

I wouldn't discount the possibility of an early season loss or 2 while the team adjusts to the loss of Achter, either.

Agreed. The whole MAC hates BG and rightfully so. When we lost to Ohio in the Tourney semis last spring, I think the whole league was happy.

We'll be a very solid team again...going unbeaten in the MAC? That would be a hell of a feat but this team has got to be the favorite in the East again.

I'm actually hoping for 30 wins this year not just sweeping the Mac. To be honest the Mac may just give us the most trouble as our non-conference sched has no BCS teams on it that I know of.

Coming from a BG fan, that's a strange way to judge the quality of our OOC schedule.

Oh, I'm sorry. Did I say strange? I meant retarded. You think playing at Temple is going to be a cake walk? They went 25-8 last year including 13-1 in conference. A conference that's much better top-to-bottom than ours.

Dayton also went 25-8 from the A-10 last year, and we'll probably get them in their tourney on the road.

After Temple we have a tough road game at Valpo. They went 9-9 in a good league last year, and they have 6 of their 7 leading scorers back.

We're also lucky we get Hartford at home. They went 27-5 last year.

We should have a very good team, but if you think we're just going to waltz through our OOC schedule, you're insane.

I would hope not, considering this is women's basketball.

Its possible, but very unlikely. I think we will drop one OOC, and one to two in conference. I think we will be the team in the MAC to beat, and we will find a good replacement for Achter but it will take some time. I am anxious for the season to start.

5 in a row.

The rest of the league has been gunning for us for the better part of 4 years now. It hasn't worked, except for maybe Ohio, who not only beat us in the MAC tourney last year, but they also upended us in AA late in the 2007-08 ride to the Sweet 16. Nobody else has had much of any success against BG in the time I've been here. NIU, WMU, and Miami are the only other teams to have MAC wins against BG since 2005, as the team has a MAC record of 51-5 the last 3 years.

Now that being said, I DO think the team could have an adjustment period at the PG spot with Achter leaving. However, we had to replace most of our starting lineup last year and we still rang up a 13-3 record in the MAC and 26-7 (I think?) overall. Barring injury troubles, I don't see how Prochaska, Breske, et al finish worse than that.

I agree. I think we'll be in the 5-loss neighborhood this year, with 2-3 of those coming in conference and OOC early.

I think this team wins 20+ again this season. PG will be the key...how well we can get our PG's going will determine a lot.

But man do I LOVE watching this team play...ROLL ALONG!!

I hope I'm wrong, but I think the dream of an undefeated season ends Friday.

Again, I hope I'm wrong.

I'm the eternal optimist...but if BG goes undefeated I'll sit naked at the NCAA Tournament.

A fifth MAC title is definitely within reach though. Can't wait to get out to Temple on Friday.

This requires a few more specifics... which round, what venue, and.... um... REALLY?? lol

I hate to ask it but would we all be focusing our attention so much on women's baskeball if they weren't this good? I have to admit that I spent four years on campus and didn't watch any of the women's teams games..maybe a bit of an end of a women's game before the men started as part of a doubleheader.

I have to admit that I for one probably wouldn't be looking for a women's basketball box score on the Internet or checking a scoer on my cell phone unless we had a MAC championship team and/or a nationally ranked team. If we were just another MAC women's program my attention spand would wane. But, I would probably say the same thng about the men's program.

Coach Miller and the ladies have made a fan of the women's game out of me. Just wonder how I'll feel if we fall back to mediocre?

I don't really think it matters. Everything about the program is great right now, and there's no indication of an end in sight. If that goes away, we'll worry about it then.
