And about the money, how many college coaches acutally make $1 million a year. What makes you think that he can go to a college that is willing to pay that.
This, I think, is a misconception.

Urban Meyer is the exception to the rule. Very rarely does a coach get > $1 million when he takes the HC job at a new school. The guys that make that kind of money are the ones who are on a 2nd or 3rd contract extension at the same school.

But lets no forget to mention all the endorsement money that goes along with being a head coach at a major school. Shoe deals, TV coaches shows, etc. add a LOT to the base salary of a head coach. Oh yea, some of them get free cars as well.

As the DC, Blackney is making a lot more than he did as a head coach at BGSU.

Brandon may have not been offered the job as is said earlier in this thread.
It's also worth pointing out that he didn't come out and say that he's staying at BG for next season.
He just said he's getting a team ready for a bowl game and that turning down the UNLV job was right for his family.
Urban orginally said he was getting his Utah team ready for a bowl game.. now we know what happened with him.
That doesn't mean a move to another school wouldn't fit his family..

I think the term we're looking for here is "Clintonian"

Now to satisfy those of you on the left..."When Clinton lied, nobody died"

I'm going to ignore the Greens and Libertarians. Everyone else does.

topdawg, you are right. I probably misspoke when I said $600 isn't HUGE money. It's a pile. What I meant (which bleedingo has generally stated) is that it is not Florida money, not LSU money, not top 20 team every year money. That is what I meant.

I haven't seen a whole lot of comment (I have a bad habit of not reading every post) concerning my statement in the same post that nobody has ever won at UNLV. Ever. And that is true despite an odd winning season and very occasional bowl appearance. That is the primary reason not to take that job in my opinion and was probably in Coach Brandon's mind.

Because if you don't win, you will get fired. And maybe quickly in the Land of High Stakes and Higher Expectations. Check the patience level in bball at UNLV post Tark. Admittedly, they have a tradition in that sport. But it is a revolving door in general.

Hey, Coach B haas done a good job. He will attract some attention. Rather be there than in Western's shoes. Beat Memphis; eat good food.

Go Falcons!

I meant to make this point earlier: It is exceedingly rare for a coach in the MAC to walk into one of those coveted, darned-near-a-million-per-year-if-not-more kind of jobs.

The only two examples I can think of that suggest it even could happen in this era are Jim Tressel (Youngstown State to Ohio State) and Gerry Faust (Cincinnati Moeller to Notre Dame).

The common thread: Both these guys absolutely dominated at their level for many years. Brandon has barely gotten his feet wet here.

"Brandon Apparently Staying As BG's Coach"

Guess somebody else has must have a few doubts about him staying around after the bowl game.

This is along the lines of what I was saying. Before the Fiesta Bowl win Tressel was only making about $650,000 after his radio & television shows were added in. After he won the championship he signed a lucrative, $1 million+ extension.

I didn't know Youngstown State was in the MAC.. or Moeller for that matter.. I thought Moeller was a high school, or a tooth, or the former coach of the Detroit Lions
