BG v Kent State
BG v Kent State
I was at the Miami-Kent game this weekend. UGH. They have this little (5'5" - 170 lbs) running back named Jarvis (105 yds/4 TD's)..... made his first appearance in 4 games (injury) and ran all over Miami. It was so bad, we left at half time..... we had friends with us who wanted to see campus - so off we went. Probably one of the worst losses in school history. SERIOUSLY.
Kent looked really good. I mean.... really good.
So..... with that in mind. I have to be greatly concerned about this weekend's game. Kent certainly is going to have a lot of confidence and we certainly haven't been looking very well.
I guess my question is ..... to those who are more astute than I ..... how is BG's defense been against the run. Can we contain Jarvis? BTW - Kent's passing game wasn't hateful either. Their QB ran for 158 and 1 TD and passed for 107 yds and 1 TD.

Well, let's just say that NIU ran the ball about 60 times and threw it about 10. They also controlled the ball for about 40 minutes. Jarvis will have a field day.Tech83 wrote:I guess my question is ..... to those who are more astute than I ..... how is BG's defense been against the run. Can we contain Jarvis?

Either they're going to beat us by a lot, we're going to beat them by a lot or it's going to be a good, close game.... to paraphrase.

I think it was the same guy who pitched in the Carolina league...."sometimes you, sometimes lose, sometimes it rains, think about it"
I couldn't believe the scroll on ESPN when they started showing Kent put the whomp on Miami. Jarvis can run pretty well, but lets not forget that Edelman can too....that alone can be scary.
It was in a different thread somewhere, somebody mentioned that they'll be content with just seeing attempts at attacking down the field. Bubble screens, and 2-3 yard slants, AT taking the shotgun snap? If you are going to keep them in the routine set them upwith something ....ANYTHING!! And for Chrissakes block on special teams! Kent has had there share of problems on ST, so you know that they have been practicing them.

Jarvis really didn't have a great game against us last year. I'm sure he was over 100 yards, but the total was deceiving as he never busted off any big runs, and Kent really struggled to move the ball in the red zone. Of course, we also scored 31 points, which we haven't gotten to more than once all year.jpfalcon09 wrote:What's the over/under for the amount of yards Jarvis will get?
Unless the offense wakes up, we will not win this game. Period.

Why are favored by 7 1/2 against Kent? I thought it was a typo in the paper so I looked it up in USA Today and saw the same thing.

Because Kent reeks like Mississippi roadkill in July?Lord_Byron wrote:Why are favored by 7 1/2 against Kent? I thought it was a typo in the paper so I looked it up in USA Today and saw the same thing.
Ahh...so you're saying it should be a good, tightly contested game?h2oville rocket wrote:Because Kent reeks like Mississippi roadkill in July?Lord_Byron wrote:Why are favored by 7 1/2 against Kent? I thought it was a typo in the paper so I looked it up in USA Today and saw the same thing.

Maybe its a chance for the SportsBook to let us make money knowing how this Home Favorite thing hasn't been working for quite some time.

I think every team knows, probably every spectator knows, that beating Bowling Green is a "simple" matter of ball control ----- and that happens when you run the ball. BG's defense is simply not quick enough stop a healthy running attack. Easter M. certainly proved that in a rather heroic way. And on offense, I think the opposition m ust have a copy of BG's play book, but then again, maybe they don't need one as even I can predict the plays. Thus our point production this year is in the cellar. So BG has been unproductive across the board and that doesn't speak well for Sat. game. Unless three wise men come from the East, I expect another loss --- and OH, HOW I HOPE I'M WRONG!
