"We Need Our Fastest Players on the Field"

Post by Rollo83 »

From Brandon Today at the Weekly Press Conference...

On Kent State's running game...

"They have the best rushing attack in the conference, but they are a little bit different than some of the teams. They don't pound you like a Pitt, Boise and Northern Illinois. (Julian) Edelman will just take the snap, look like he is dropping back and then just take off. (Eugene) Jarvis is a good back -- very shifty and elusive -- but not one that is going to just keep punishing you . We have to get our fastest guys on the field. We've faced these guys before and did a nice job last year against them. It's not anything that we haven't seen and can prepare for our players just need to execute and believe that we can win and beat Kent."

They don't pound you like a Pitt, Boise and Northern Illinois. (Julian) Edelman will just take the snap, look like he is dropping back and then just take off.

Doesn't that sound exactly what Chandler Harnish did? Norethern Illionois didn't have a big back that pounded on us. Harnish (QB) is listed at 6'3" and 211 pounds. Me'co Brown (RB) is 5'7", 180 lbs. They didn't have a power running game, but their line dominated us up front. They did the same thing we'll get from Edelman and Jarvis. Edleman will run the same QB draw as Harnish did. And, Jarvis is the same type of small, shifty back Brown is.

Some times I wonder if Brandon really believes what he's saying or is he just blowing smoke during a press conference? And, getting his fastest players on the field is his answer? Why didn't he have them on the field last Satutrday?

The link above is to Ryan's blog after the weekly presser. Ryan is doing a fantastic job covering the team. I wish he would have better news to write about, but he's doing a great job getting information out and giving his opinion.

Injuries - this excuse is played out. Sure not having Freddie or Willie sucks, but we were only getting 8 yards/catch out of Freddie with 0 touchdowns and Willie's best run of the year came when he sprinted out of Meijer with his Xbox.

Coach Ward said the line wasn't getting blown off the ball - I'll trust his judgment after reviewing the game film, but it certainly looked like our guys were pushed back on every play. Harnish was 6 yards downfield before anybody was close enough to miss a tackle on him.

Briggs didn't start on Saturday - Coach laid down the law and we didn't commit any personal fouls. It's a steep price to pay not having Diyral out there for the first play of the game, but I'm glad Coach got his point across.

Ryan does do a great job..it's a shame he has to work for a complete and total douche like John Robinson Block, but I'm sure it beats waiting tables.

Before we get all pessimistic and what not...I'd like to remind everyone that the consensus on the board last year was that Kent was going to run all over us and then take our Dline down to the county lockup to sell them for cigarettes. Kent did get their yards, but the defense managed to keep them out of the end zone enough times to manage a 31-20 win. I'm not saying it will go down like that this year...but I didn't say it would go down like that last year either.

Only sports??!!! Was it only sports when Rocky fought Apollo Creed? Was it only sports when Roy Hobbs hit a home run? Was it only sports when Paul Crew beat the guards? Was it only sports when the Hanson Brothers went into the stands? Was it only sports when the Pittsburg Pisces began to win? I don't think so!
