Jeez.

I hope he can lose some weight this off season.

Anyway, it would take a lot to pry him out of Toledo. This is pretty much his dream job.

Exactly - it is his dream job.. and that's why BG needs to get some home-grown talented coach in place once Greg decides to leave. And yes, he will decide to leave - may not be this year, may not be next, but he won't be here forever.
Besides... I like Dayon's Den.. am not sold on him as a head coach yet anyway.. time will tell if I buy into him all together.
As far as a replacement.. Strudrawa.. it's that simple.
He's from Fremont originally.. and is more likely to stay put so he can coach in front of friends and family that live in Northwest Ohio.

A toledo friend agreed once that Amstuck doesn't have the PR appeal that a lot of athletic programs want today. Other than the good win record, they like to see a hungry young Meyer come in with lots of enthusiasm. Toledo fans know well some boneheaded comments he makes when interviewed, struggling with a candy bar on national TV, and standing on the sidelines with a goofy expression. That "I know but I'm not going to tell you" interview line a few years ago was dumb also.

And from his point of view, I really don't think he wants to play all those PR games at this point in his life. "Money isn't everything" is true sometimes. For perhaps similar reasons, UT's OC suffers during interviews also.

Coach Amstutz's image (fat) and speaking ability hold him back from "major" jobs. He is loved in Toledo, but that is hard to translate to Salt Lake City or Las Vegas!!!

why should he leave?

he has a great job in toledo and is getting paid a decent amount of money there and is winning the mac why take the risk of leaving and getting canned in three years at another school.

Is there any school out there were it would be appropriate to have a large guy coach. I was thinking Utah. They took the over-weighted, and I do mean overweight Rick Majerus from Ball State. Maybe AMSTUTZ should go out there, he would fit in well.

are the paying coaches by the pound now?

Why hasn't Amstutz left? Do you want to be the AD that has to explain to the alumni groups and the media why you decided to hire Homer Simpson to coach the football team?

It's a good situation. He loves Toledo, Toledo loves him and I'm not sure how his "act" would play elsewhere

wow, no kidding. I thought he was older then that. Hie health is really going become an issue if he doesn't start doing something about it. I guess its no surprise considering that 30% of americans are obese.

I think Homer's experience as owner of the Denver Broncos would serve him well. At least he'd look the part seeing as he owns Tom Landry's Hat ;)

I think that anyone who would even think about trying to lure him away from Toledo. Everyone in the country knows him as, "Toledo Tom".

In regards to loving Toledo, you have to understand that everyone comes from somewhere. I lived in New York City for a few years. I personally hated it: dirty, crime, noise, crime, crime, crime. But, native New Yorkers love it and think it is crazy that I did not love it.

Every city and town have good and bad parts. The nice parts of Toledo are very nice. The bad parts are very bad. Avoid the bad parts and stick to the nice parts and you have a great place.

In addition, Toledo has a good thing going in terms of the community and support. He is paid well (he went to Whitmer so he is not from the greatest of backgrounds anyway) and has the top stadium in the MAC, top attendance in the MAC, one of the nicest campuses in the MAC. Where else are you going to find these things?

I am more concerned about losing our OC.

WHAT?!?!?!

I figured you guys would be more concerned about all of those schools that might try to lure away Lou West!

CO-I agree, both of the houses in the nice part of toledo are pretty nice.Of course those houses would happen to be The Ronald McDonald House, and your head coaches favorite,International House of Pancakes.
