My first collegiate soccer game
My first collegiate soccer game
So we headed out to NIU yesterday for the football game, but on Wednesday found that the men's soccer team would play NIU at noon, at NIU. A good friend of ours in on the soccer team, Jacob Lawrence #27, so we decided to make it a long day and see both teams. My thoughts:
It's too bad that there aren't more fans at games. They play a fast paced and exciting game, but hardly anybody's there to witness it.
Our team plays GREAT defense. The goalie had one mistake, thus allowed one goal, but the defense was a team effort.
NIU played very close defense and didn't allow our guys to retain possession for long at all. Any shots on goal were really not as much plays set up as they were sporadic shots. Had a couple of near goals, though.
It was a great time, and I know the guys, especially Jacob, really appreciated seeing some students at the game. Those guys work extremely hard, they train, sprint, everything, and they play an exciting game. STUDENTS - I'd highly suggest going to a soccer game or two, or more, in your time here, both men's and women's. It's sure to be enjoyed.

Im a freshman student and ive been to a few women's games (ill be honest, the men's record has kept me from going). We beat Buffalo 3-0 today, and i agree we need more students at soccer games!! Awesome sport to watch, that would be even better with crowd involvement. Same with volleyball, very exciting sport. STUDENTS, come out to some soccer/volleyball games. We need to support our teams. Womens soccer plays Toledo thursday at 3. (Field is located across from the football field/intermural fields). Volleyball plays Miami on thursday as well, at 7, at Anderson. I challenge all students on this site to get some friends together and pack those stands thursday!!!!!! Both teams are VERY GOOD this year, so don't expect to be disappointed.....

Our men's soccer team goes weeks without scoring any goals. They're pretty much pathetic.
Of course, I'm horribly biased against BG men's soccer. If they cut that program tomorrow, nobody would care. I'd practically be celebrating, because that's fewer wasted scholarship dollars and god only knows how many other deserving applicants need that money.

If you mean the 1st of November, then yes the men play Buffalo at home at 1pm. Could be an ugly game though. The ladies play Toledo this thursday at 3, that would also be a great game to go to. The ladies will also play a tourney game on Saturday the 2nd of November, but time is not set yet.factman wrote:Do either have a HOME game next Saturday about 2pm? I'd be tempted to go!

If you're going to keep going around calling me pathetic and discrediting my posts like you've done for the better part of the last 3 years, I can't stop you. But please, give me one good reason why that program shouldn't be cut. It adds NOTHING to this university.BGFalconfromCincy wrote:you are pathetic, please get over yourselfbgsufalcon24 wrote:Our men's soccer team goes weeks without scoring any goals. You only want them cut because they pissed you off at the field house 2 years ago. If the men's soccer team was doing as good as the women's team you wouldn't want them cut, hence why you never say you want the women's team cut even though you mentioned them in your field house story. While they might be struggling the program does have history, I mean they have won an outright league title (regular season or tournament, not counting division titles here) more recently then football, men's basketball, or hockey. Programs go through ups and down, we all know that. You only want them gone cause they upset you and your little football league.bgsufalcon24 wrote:If you're going to keep going around calling me pathetic and discrediting my posts like you've done for the better part of the last 3 years, I can't stop you. Seriously, 24. Get over it. It was a stupid grudge to begin with, and now it's just flat out annoying. Please don't pretend it's about anything other than your field house experience either. I don't see you on here arguing that swimming and diving should be cut.
Let. It. Go.

seriously, get over yourselfbgsufalcon24 wrote:Oh, and by the way, BG got crushed 4-0 by Michigan State yesterday. Worse yet, according to the BG News write-up of the game, they had no shots on goal for the entire game.
Pathetic. Nice performance though.

Let's go ahead and cut golf and cross country too, I'm not sure I ever read a write-up where we had an overall win in an invitational or a meet.
Of course, that's a stupid argument. Which makes it pretty surprising that I haven't seen it argued by anyone on here yet.
I guess that's probably because they don't use the field house.
Get off it, 24. Dear lord. Talk about pathetic.

YOU CAN'T EXPECT TO HAVE A PRODUCTIVE MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY PROGRAM WITHOUT A TRACK PROGRAM. ONE SPORT SIMPLY FEEDS/SUPPORTS THE OTHER. IF YOU'RE A DISTANCE RUNNER, IT'S A YEAR AROUND COMMITMENT. SO I COULDN'T IMAGINE GOING TO A SCHOOL WHERE YOU'RE COMPETITIVE SEASON IS SO SHORT. THEY DROPPED MEN'S TRACK, OF COURSE, UNDER THE FALSE PRETENSE THAT IT HAD SOMETHING TO DO WITH TITLE IX --- IT DIDN'T, IT WAS JUST A MATTER OF MONEY. THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF HUNDREDS OF COLLEGES AND UNIVERFSITIES THAT HAVE MAINTAINED A FULL SLATE OF MEN'S PROGRAMS. CHECK OUT THE U. OF FINDLAY'S MENS PROGRAMS. ---- BG SHOULD HAVE DROPPED SOCCER. I'M SURE POLITICS HAD SOMETHING TO DO WITH IT, WHAT THEY FAILED TO UNDERSTAND/RESEARCH IS THAT TRACK AND FIELD FOR BOYS/MEN IS THE 3RD MOST POPULAR SPORT IN THE COUNTRY IN TERMS OF PARTICIPATION AT THE SECONDARY LEVEL. FOR BOTH BOYS AND GIRLS, IT IS THE SECOND MOST POPULAR SPORT IN THE COUNTRY. SO WHY IN THE #$%$#$% WOULD THEY DROP A SPORT LIKE THAT AND KEEP SOCCER WHICH RANKS DOWN THE LIST IN TERMS OF POPULARITY. ACTUALLY, AT THE RISK OF BEING SCRALIGOUS, I'D HAVE DROPPED BASEBALL --- BUT I GUESS THE MAC SAYS THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN A NO, NO!
