Attendance - we're fine

Post by MarkL »

Attendance figures will be fine, for anybody who's concerned:
vs. Minnesota: 23184
vs. EMU: 16217
vs. Miami: 15411
vs. KSU: 10411

Attendance needed to reach average of 15000 on senior night vs Buffalo: 9777.

We're fine :D

5k came dressed as empty seats this past Saturday. I couldn't believe the paid attendance was that high.

We must have fudged that attendance figure, there's no way we had that many fans there on Saturday. Of course, this makes up for all the undervalued crowd numbers we had in 2005 and 2006. I remember the Toledo game in 2005 was practically sold out a la Minnesota this year, and yet we announced 17K.

And yes, we'll probably be well over 10K for the finale now that we've actually won a home game. The crowd could potentially be huge if we beat Ohio next week and make the division come down to the final two games.

I think they can count tickets sold again. There was at least one year where you had to have people in the stands to count them. I'll have to look it up Monday. Of course, if they can count strictly tickets sold, it bodes ill. Or at least confirms the mood that prevailed in the stands since the end of the Minny game.

There is no way in hell we will have a huge number. If we get over 12,000 for the Fuffalo game I will be shocked.

I wouldn't be surprised at all to see the Buffalo game have less people than Saturday. Perhaps WAY less.

Yeah, we finally got a win, and that might rejuvenate some of the fanbase, but my guess is not a lot. This Saturday was a gorgeous day (for November), and an OSU bye week. We still couldn't get many people out there because of the way our team played.

The Buffalo game is a terrible opponent. I don't care if they are better this year (they're a decent team), their name value is craptastic, and that means something in these matters. More importantly it's one of those dreaded weekday night games (Friday is better than Tuesday or whatever, but still after work). It is in late November and will likely be FREAKING COLD at kickoff, and colder as the game goes on.

Buffalo on a Friday night in late November? Please, whoever put that game on the schedule was just doing so to see how few people we could get in the stands. This game would struggle to get 15k if we were undefeated in MAC play and living up to all expectations this year. Win or Lose at Ohio I'd be shocked to see 10k there, and 5k isn't out of the question. I'm sure we'll find a way to fudge the numbers and get the announced attendance up to the benchmark it needs to be, but actually at the game I'd be surprised if it were more than 7k.

I wasnt at the game, but based on the photos from the paper, it looked like there was barely a couple hundred students there? Not surprising but still.....i look for attendance to be about status-quo for the Buffalo game.....

Folks have been passed the dish, and decided to pass.

In any case, come to think of it, even if BG does make the title game, which I in no way would think they can win, a loss would knock them from a bowl game anyway, and leave them with a losing record I think.

Even if they win, they lose, unless they can manage a five game winning streak that includes a bowl game.

Pull that trick and we all might be happy. Beating UT, a title, winning season, bowl win, and maybe somebody hires GB away from us, and UT suffers with a coaching search.
