There is no problem with Div. I-A coaches showing a little common courtesy.....even if it is BG and "them".

After some 30 years at one job and taking young kids and turning them into men you should show respect.

Coach Amstutz lost his job in which he loved to do day in and day out. I am sure he touched a lot of lives in those 30+ years at Toledo. Also, I am sure it is a very hard time for his family along with his assistants coaches and there families too.

You don't have to like him, but do show some respect at the very least

Bo and Woody had absolute admiration for each other. When Bo retired, there was only one person he asked to be a featured speaker at his banquet: Woody Hayes. Woody's doctors said no because he was honestly dying, but his last big thing he did in his life was to speak at his close friend's retirement banquet. In Bo's book "Bo", there is a whole chapter devoted to his friendship with Woody.

It is very common for coaches of extreme rivalries to be great friends. On the field, they're fiercest of enemies, but off the field, they are the only ones who understand what it is like to be the head coach of a team in this rivalry. So in summary, I would have been stunned if Brandon and Amstutz weren't friends off the field.

I remember talking to Coach B a few times about Amstutz and Coach always said good things about him.

I find it hard to believe that one experience with Mo gave a good idea of what she's like. And a press conference isn't the greatest place to make pals, especially on deadline.

As for Amstutz, I think I talked to him two or three times. He knew I was from BG every time, and treated me with respect and even cracked a few jokes. For people to talk about him like he was a jerk is pretty dumb.

Maureen Fulton is awesome. She and I have exchanged emails and she is very pleasant and outgoing. I wouldn't peg her personality on a business situation.

I would expect the HC of BGSU to respect opposing coaches. They are all on the same team, folks. They are coaches in the MAC (or CCHA.) To this point, I give Brandon a great deal of credit. He seems to reciprocate respect across the coaching ranks within the MAC.

Woody and Bo has respect and admiration for one another. I'm willing to wager they had a friendship which was covered up to the public via school rivalry.

As I understand it they did so at least once at one Doyt Perry's house in Bowling Green.
Actually, Woody and Bo were close friends before and after the Ten Year War. When Bo had his heart attack, Woody drove to Ann Arbor and was one of the first visitors he got when he returned home to recover.

Bo was on Woody's staff at Miami of Ohio and learned a lot from the old coach. So much so that Bo knew what Woody's team were going to do most of the time when they played. Bitter rivals on the field they were actually very close off the field.

You can be civil and friendly with someone you compete with...doesn't have to be personal. Happens in business all the time.
