Question about the new SAC

With the news SAC scheduled to be built in the north end zone, does anyone know exactly how this is going to alter the seating capacity at the stadium? Obviously, the wooden bleachers that are in the north end zone will come out, but will new ones be installed in the south end zone below/in front of the new scoreboard on the cement that is still there where the tent city now stands? I know some of you have mentioned you have seen either an artist rendering or a model of the SAC, so any information about this question would be interesting to hear. I am just trying to figure out how this is all going to all take shape.

I remember someone saying that they were going to build the SAC so they would have the ability to add seating in the north endzone. I am sure Krebs and Co. have this issue in mind. I am excited to see some models and drawings.

I believe the capacity of the stadium with just the two grandstands is just over 23,000. I am hoping we might install new aluminum bleachers under the new scoreboard or something once the new SAC is built because a 23,000 seat facility would be pretty small. Putting new seats in the south end zone could bump us back up to 25,000 or 26,000. What I think would be cool is if we were to make end zones bleachers in the south end zone that connected with at least the lower part of the grandstands to kind of close that end of the stadium, similar to what Western Michigan. If we were to do that, I think our stadium would look awesome. Right now, it just has a very open feel and - for good reason, it is. But adding the SAC in the north end zone and new bleachers that connect with the grandstands, it could look great.

I agree about installing aluminum bleachers in that south end zone under the scoreboard. When the SAC is completed, I think it would be cool if we closed that end in with seating butting up next to the SAC itself.

Is that if the program continues to do well, we would need more seating. Therefore I think would be cool it they would wrap the seating around the south endzone similar to the concrete grandstands they have on the east and west sides of the stadium. We'd then have a closed in U-shaped stadium with the SAC at the top of the U.

That's a good point...I guess I was thinking that if they were undertaking that amount of construction, they would either move the scoreboard up some and have seats at the very top wrap around the scoreboard, or they would just move it to the other endzone near the SAC similar to Rynearson stadium.

The seating in the south end zone wouldn't have to go as high as the east and west grandstands. It could go part of the way up to allow the scoreboard to still be seen. Many college stadiums have seating such as this, the lower bowl end zones are usually about half as high as the sidelines are.

We would really have to show a NEED for all this seating you guys are throwing around. Aesthetically it would make sense and look great to close one or both ends of the stadium. The simple fact is that there is not enough demand to do so. I have been attending games since 1985 and the only game I can recall in which the place was really packed was a Toledo game in Blackney's first or second year.

Our two "sell outs" last year there were plenty of seats open. For the NIU game I entered the stadium 8 minutes before the scheduled kick off and found enough seats for me and 12 of my friends on the West side 3/4 the way up on the North 40 end zone.

Hate to sound negative, but I think the reality is the athletic department is taking a political approach to things- by making Perry Stadium smaller it woudl raise the demand for tickets and also give the appearance of a more exciting, packed house, even if 23k or more would show up in a 28k stadium, 23k in a 23k capacity stadium would appear better on tv and such... just my two cents. . .

Nothing sells tickets like a sold-out sign, or so a former BG AD once said.

I think they ought to hold the line, and focus on making the stadium more and more refined. Getting side-tracked on a binge of adding seats is a bad idea. Once that type of thing starts, you waste money that can help ensure the program always sells out the seats that it has.

The next big thing after this year, should be gutting and totally changing the approach towards selling food. I want far more choice and variety in game-time chow.

Proposed new building for offices and a new arena. They are going to build it on the north side of the stadium.

Is the university foodservice responsible for the stadium concessions? Sheesh - if the Union can get real food, why can't the stadium?
