Damn! This is not at all the way we need to be heading into a season that hasn't even started yet. I guess we can only HOPE this doesn't go beyond the tournament in Minnesota.ZiggyZoomba wrote:I could be wrong though.... starting to look like maybe I am.BleedOrange wrote:ZiggyZoomba wrote:I think this might stem from an older "over-the-summer" type of infraction and NOT anything new. I'm not 100% sure on this, but I think it to be the case. I'm under the impression that Nate and Knight are on board fully with the program and will be for the duration.
And here we are ranting on like a bunch of crazy old men.
Thanks for the info.
Add Cameron Madlock to that list of not going to Minnesota.... *sigh*
Oh no..ouch

Anyone know anything yet, on Austin Calhoun's academic eligibility?
Is Minnesota an "exempt" tourney? One of those multiple-game things that only count as one on your record? I heard the new UT coach talking about that on the radio the other day.
At one time those exempt tournaments were only ones played outside the contiguous U.S. I think. Puerto Rico, Hawaii, Alaska, Guam...like that. Not sure that still applies and I think there's a little weird part of Minnesota that's surrounded by our socialist neighbor so maybe its being held there...

As odd as this sounds, i LOVE it! Listen, if it were Karaffa (spelling?)/Larson/Madlock/One of the freshman (i.e. someone who wouldn't be a huge lost), it'd be one thing. I like how Orr isn't messing around because they're his top two players. It sends a message "i'll suspend the best players, what makes you think I wouldn't suspend you?" It proves a point and keeps the whole team in line. Cheers to Orr, hopefully this will light a fire under everyones ass and they play hard for their man.Falconfreak90 wrote:Damn....unreal. I hate to hear that but Coach Orr is doing the right thing. If they broke team rules, they must pay the price.

No.... I really don't remember any situations similar to this.cowboyjoe wrote:It's funny how Dakich used to get "beat up" on this board for doing things like this. He was "making" kids quit with these types of tactics...remember?
Who has quit?
And when did Dakich suspend his 2 best players for violating team rules?

I also find it odd that Miller is having problems with team rules now AFTER Dakich has left. Very disappointing. I hope he gets his act in gear, but I've have had this nagging feeling that we aren't going to be truly legit until we have a team that consists entirely of Orr recruits.

I remember Martin Samarco being 10 minutes late to get on the team bus when we went to Arkansas Little Rock and he didn't make the trip and people went nuts because it was "only" 10 minutes late and he was our leading scorer. I like the discipline I'm just saying Orr is getting kudos and Dakich got ripped for doing the same types of things.
I really don't think there's any comparison. Do you know what the current violation was? If not, then I don't think any reasonable argument can be made.cowboyjoe wrote:I remember Martin Samarco being 10 minutes late to get on the team bus when we went to Arkansas Little Rock and he didn't make the trip and people went nuts because it was "only" 10 minutes late and he was our leading scorer. Dakich was in a pattern of losing players constantly over several seasons. Some of them eventually made it known they hated playing for him. Even some who stayed had no problem saying so (Netter). When Dakich was here, the team played tight and acted like they were afraid of making mistakes. With Orr, they seem like they're actually having fun, which is great to see. I think the difference is a matter of respect for the coach.
If I have a supervisor at work who is always all over me for every little thing to the point I can't get anything done, I'm going to hate working for them. If I have a supervisor I respect and let's me do my job, I could handle it if they got down on me for something I know I did wrong.

Unlike Orr, crap like this was a pattern with Dakich. Dakich wasn't happy unless someone was in his damned doghouse. It seemed like Dakich made a point of always having someone in the doghouse as a coaching technique. Players were always getting kicked out of practice, benched, or whatever. After a while it just seemed stupid. Something was dysfunctional.

First, this isn't how the football season started, the football team doesn't have this type of discipline.
On Dakich, the man had convictions and he was 20 years to late to college basketball, his style can't work in this day and age of athletes who don't believe rules apply to them. The man single handedly cleaned up the Indiana program and has more dedication to doing whats right than most people I know.

You're probably right about that. Discipline isn't a bad thing but Dakich developed a reputation for running people off. Most of us don't know why these guys in the current situation are being suspended. Is this the first significant disciplinary action/suspension since Orr has been here?cowboyjoe wrote:I'm just saying that Orr is starting to make some discipline decisions and if it were Dakich some people would say "here we go again." With Orr it's "nice job-- they deserve it."
The point is, Dakich earned the "here we go again" attitude from a fan standpoint over time. Orr hasn't. An occasional issue like this isn't unexpected. Coach handled a rule violation. Good for him. He should. If it becomes a regular pattern, or players start to jump ship like they did when Dakich was here, then there's a problem. I don't see that happening.
