Damn thanksgiving. Ruins my arguments every time. Thats ok tho I kinda like looking like an idiot. Gives ya'll something to talk about besides "how bad the team is", etc etc. At least i'll admit when im wrong.

Just dont call me a whiner when you dont even know me. People really are big in their britches online where no one can see them. I wonder what they would be like in person???

Sorry, didn't mean to call you a whiner, it's just that we seem to have a post about that almost every year about this time. It's either, "OMG the UT game is while students are out of school!" (if on Friday/Saturday after Thanksgiving), or it's "OMG, the UT game is on the last day of classes, and we're leaving!" (if it's on Tuesday).

Either day the attendance numbers are usually not that greatly affected by the date.

I certainly didn't mean to offend you, it's just something that has had people complaining about for the past 5-6 years one way or the other. As to who I am in real life, you're more than welcome to stop by at an azz.com tailgate (although I won't be able to make UB early enough) sometime. Or say hi at any men's basketball game, I rarely miss those, either. I know quite a few of the posters on this site, and I certainly don't try to hide behind a keyboard.

Well first of all the BG/UT game hasn't been played the day after thanksgiving since 2003. So you might wanna get your facts straight before you call me a whiner sir!! :axe:

2007: game was played friday the 23rd
2006: game was played tuesday the 21st
2005: game was played tuesday the 22nd
2004: game was played tuesday the 23rd

So ya the attendance may be good over the years but that is because the game is played the WEEK BEFORE thanksgiving. There is no way a bunch of students are going to trek back up here on the day after thanksgiving just to watch us play football. And the game time is, get this: 3:30PM!!! You guys are saying the buffalo game is bad scheduling, but the afternoon after thanksgiving isn't? Especially for a rivalry game?!? I think that is worse. Alot worse. And its disappointing because now i can't watch the BG/UT game, first time in 4 years!!!!
Not exactly the brightest move to use data that doesn't support your ideas. Last year Friday the 23rd was the day after Thanksgiving. They even kicked off at 2:30 last year.

Attendance Figures for games in BG
1999: Game played in Oct.
2001-Friday Nov 23rd, day after; 26,483
2003-Saturday after; 29,724
2005-22nd, Tuesday Before; 17,438
2007-Friday after, 18,926

So recap, BG-UT games played in BG since 2001 have drawn better when played after Thanksgiving. In fact the only years played before were 04,05,06. 2 of those were in Toledo. And in Toledo the games played both before and after Thanksgiving draw closer to 25K. Actual numbers are such a bitch when they don't support personal opinions. To reiterate Hammb's point, this isn't a big deal
I would like to bluntly point out that the attendance figure of 17K in 2005 is absolute 100% BULLSHIT. Outside of the very top corners on the East side, DLP was packed that night. To this day, I have no idea how they came out with such a poor attendance figure from that game. By comparison, I feel like the 2007 figure of 19K is about right, maybe just a little short. The East side was actually more filled up than the West side in 2007, probably because of either poor student turnout or the fact that what students were there decided to scatter out all over the place.

I agree with the previous two, the 2005 Toledo game was the most crowded i've seen the Doyt except maybe the Minnesota game this season...i remember turning around and not being able to stomach watching Timshanko attempt PATs because he missed so many...

The stadium may have looked full in 2005, but that was because it was so damn cold out people came out in K2 survival gear just to stay warm. So with all the extra layers on, one person was taking up more than one space. The university has no reason to under report attendance figures, so I am going to say their number is accurate.

I accept, and i apologize for overreacting. I didnt realize that this was an issue to people year in and year out. If I had known the attendance figures I wouldnt have mentioned it at all. I think its great to get that much support even during holiday times. Its a tribute to falcon fans everywhere. I just worry that people like me, who go home for the holidays will not be able to support our falcons.

And i will be at most BBall games as well, hope to see you there :D

and thats why I love living off campus :-D even if there wasn't a football game (or home hockey as there is this year) I would probably still come back Friday (as I did the past 2 years and will do again this year)

Hell, I love having it right after Thanksgiving. I come up to Chicago (Family) for Thanksgiving, take Amtrak to Toledo for the game, come back the same way, and drive back to KS. If it weren't for the mid-week game, I wouldn't be able to make it.

Who is this area would still be alive in the state semifinal round??
i will be watching Sylvania Southview vs. Medina at Kalahari Field at Huron Memorial Stadium, Huron, Ohio. A nice D-II matchup. I did my student teaching at Southview, plus I'll get to root for brown and orange ;-).

Ohio High School Athletic Association Regional Football Finals at Doyt Perry Stadium

Friday, November 15 (7:30 PM)
Genoa vs. Ottawa Glandorf

Saturday, November 16 (7:00 PM)
Liberty Benton vs. Patrick Henry

On a side note the head coach for Ottawa-Glandorf is Ken Schriner who was the starting center for BGSU back in the mid '80's. His brother Dan also started on the offensive line for the Falcons. Coach Schriner has done a great job with the OG program.
