Second press release (or at least an AP story)

I still LOVE the brown unis, but I don't know how it looks with Dee Brown's wrestling singlet underneath.

Im impressed with our performance tonight. GA St is alot more talented than many think, plus our top 2 scorers are out.......what a gutsy win. I think this is an omen for the year to come. I can sense great things from our guys this year. Still gotta wait, its early, but i like what i saw.......

Wow. That is rather sad when you think about. Glad to see those days are over.

Why is it sad?

I bet a lot of teams start the season playing Div II warm up games.

I cant believe there is not more discussion on this board. Is Georgia State really bad and we were suppossed to run over them?Looking at the box, I see some amazing things. Marschall filled up the box score in his first game back even with 2 blocks(which tells me he might have had a mismatch). Moten and Jaku scored a bunch. I think to be a good team we need consistent scoring from Moten and Marschall and outside shooting from Jaku. We got all of that.

We also got a hint of things to come. Dee Brown saw 18 minutes, Scott Thomas 3 and Ryan Sims 0. Marc Larson saw double the time of Otis Polk.

This could all mean absolutely nothing. Just interesting to note.

This is as exciting of a team since the Pardon days.

Marschall-Polk
Knight-Larson-Madlock
Miller-Thomas
Moten-Clements
Jaku-Brown-Sims

Next year could be just as good if not better in terms of depth
Polk-Larson
Marschall-Madlock-McElroy
Knight-Thomas-Calhoun
Graves-Goins-Graus
Jaku-Brown-Sims

Not once in those six season opening losses did BG play at home. (One year we opened with a win over Urbana, but lost our first D1 game.)

Interesting stat? Sure. "Sad"? Meh.

I thought the comment sounded potentially misleading too, so I went back and looked.

Here are opening game opponents and results going back to 01-02

2001-2002 Mississippi W 82-78
2002-2003 Detroit L 75-61
2003-2004 Urbana W 103-78
2004-2005 DePaul L 69-59 won the next 10 out of 11
2005-2006 Western Carolina L 56-50
2006-2007 Denison W 89-52
2007-2008 Western Carolina L 63-60
