Heavy Advertising for BG-Buffalo game

Post by bgsufalcon24 »

Last week, I said that the athletic department should forget the students and target alumni attendance for this final weekend. It appears they have taken the opposite approach. I've already seen tons of flyers and ads on dining center tables for this weekend's game against Buffalo. They are really trying to target students for this game. Among the amenities they are pushing:

Orange Out - First 2000 students through the gate get free orange shirts
Halftime - 1 student fan will get the chance to win $10000 in cash in a "throw the football through the hole" type game.
Residence Halls - Cash prizes to the top 3 residence halls that supply the most attendance. Not sure how this is going to work

We have been advertising quite a bit on the tv as well. Seems like the athletic department is prepared to go all out on this one. We'll see if it works, as I said before, I'm quite skeptical. Shame that they are sticking with the 6pm start time though.

Thanks for the details. Glad to see there's a major effort afoot. Hope there's a big turnout for this crucial game!

When are they going to select somebody from AZZ for the 100 yard Pass-Punt-Kick competition.

Will take on any undergraduate at any time!
There is no other way to finish a season other than yelling at the top of your lungs among BG's players holding the Peace Pipe aloft!

There is also a promotion for local Boy Scouts and their popcorn sales.

Glad to see they're doing something. I fully expect the turnout for this one to be abysmal. If we can get 10k I think it will be a stellar job by all parties involved.

Considering we did better than 10K for the Miami game in 2006, and that game was played under conditions about 10000 times more abysmal than this (ie: weather, Wednesday night game, team out of contention, etc), I think we'll be fine here. The attendance can't possibly be any worse than it was 2 weeks ago against Kent, when virtually everybody had prematurely thrown in the towel on the season.

Actual attendance for that game was under 5k. Tickets sold was over 10k because of how many bulk tickets they sold to corporations.

Wasn't the paid attendance something like 21000?

Exactly. I fully expect this Friday game to draw similarly to that Miami game, I only hope that the Athletic Department realizes that. They may need to do another hard sell to some corporations to get us back over the 15k number again.

I don't think being on a Friday really carries any advantages to the Wednesday night affair when the gametime is at 6:00 (wasn't that game at 8:00?). I'm sure the weather will not be as bad as it was for that Miami game, but we're probably looking at gametime temps in the low to mid 30s, and dropping as the night goes on.

And, despite the fact that this game is very important for the MAC standings there is still a big name value difference between Miami & Buffalo. Name value could prove pretty important to casual fans who may not realize that Buffalo is competing for the MAC East this year.

All I know is if we get 10k tickets sold I'll be thrilled. If we get 10k in the actual stands I'll be astonished. I hope I'm wrong, but I don't have a lot of faith in our casual fanbase to come out in the cold against Buffalo to root for a 5-5 team at 6:00 on a Friday, division implications or not.

The 6 o'clock start is going to kill actual attendance. Usually my dad will come up to the game and bring a business associate or my grandpa but with the 6 o'clock start that's out the window.

I'm sure there are a lot stories like that for this particular game.

Has anyone come up with ANY rationale for the 6pm start? That has to cause at least 1,000 less in attendance!
It makes absolutly NO SENSE!

It was going to be a 4pm Saturday start, but it was moved up for BCSN.

I just saw a notice that my employer is offering discounted tickets for the game. Use promo code "Marathon" for discounted tickets.

I did think that was odd they are doing this. I mean it is a Friday 6:00 start and most people live in Findlay. It might help a little more if they said any one going to the game could take the afternoon off too.

All the details of the promotions are on bgsufalcons.com....and they ARE making a strong attempt to market this game...we've all said it....the start time is so awkward that many fans, even loyal ones, are gonna be hard pressed to make it in time for opening kickoff, if they come at all...Fortunately, my wife has a few businesses in NW Ohio she plans to visit on her sales rep route...so we should be good to make it in time...and then staying overnite at the H.I. Express, back home on Sat.
