UT bothered by bowl bid

Bottom line is that next to no one in the MAC draws very many fans when they are playing the bottom tier MAC teams. PERIOD.

And I can guarantee you that if UT has two or three losing seasons in a row that they would have less than 17,000 fans at the games against the lower teir MAC teams.

If you think that fans don't go to games less when a team is losing you are the biggest idiot on the planet. IT HAPPENS IN NEARLY EVERY CITY IN EVERY SPORT.

For decades, that school up north, has had problems dealing with the success of BGSU on any level.. not just football. This is another example.
TU.. yes TU is what it will always be known as.. has always been jealous of our campus, college town, fans, teams, etc. and this is just more proof of it.
If TU wants to go join another conference.. I say let them. I would love to see them go be a mediocre team in a "Big Conference."... and then we would say to them.. why are you running from the falcons. Why don't you want to play us every year any more. Truth is, they'll never leave, and that's fine with this falcon fan, because I for one enjoy their whining, because it's proof of their inferority complex.

Listen, many of our fanms have the same problems as a few of you have. A couple of decent years of success and all of a sudden, it is like it erased years of mediocrity. Truth of the matter is that BG fans, like many Toledo fans, are fair-weather fans. Period. To try and win an argument by saying that IF Toledo were to have a couple of losing seasons in a row, that the attendance will suffer. Well, no s**t. But when our attendance suffers, we go from an average of 25,000 fans a game (in a 26,000 seat stadium) to 17,000 fans a game. When BG suffers, they go from 18,000 fans a game (in a 30,000 seat stadium) to 10,000.

You have two good years and all of a sudden there is this giant history of dominance and great fan support. A lot of f^ckers up here do the same thing. Toledo could do a better job too! No s**t. But we are ahead of the curve in the MAC in terms of getting the job done. Being in a metropolitan area does not gaurantee big crowds. You guys should totally be drawing better whne you are essentially in the same metropolitan area as Toledo.

By the way, more people that go to Toledo are from Toledo. Obviously, since we are a city. It is not like your graduates are off solving World Peace in Geneva. They mostly return to the same community they came from, just like Toledo, just like every other college in the country. To argue that Toledo sucks because our graduates return to their community is pretty ignorant since the same thing happens at every school.

I do feel that the University needs to develop or change their marketing plan when it comes to Cleveland. From the westside it only takes about an hour and 35 minutes to BG. I agree with most of what you're saying...but to point out the REAL problem in my opinion...the Cuy.Co. Alum. Assoc. has made a "big deal" of going to "WATCH PARTIES" for the big games..last year's 1st Miami game, this year's UT game... Though I live in Summit Co., I still get mailings from C.Co. which is fine with me, as I'm "Cleve.Oriented". I responded that I was GOING TO THE UT GAME in person, didn't want to watch it on TV in a bar and why didn't they think of sponsoring a bustrip to BG for a regular season game etc. Many years ago, a different group of folks were in charge; planned a basketball/hockey doubleheader bus trip with a meal at Ice Arena lounge and meet the coaches session. The bus left from Westgate shopping center, brought everyone back in late evening, around midnite or so... We had a great time. Reaction to my suggestion on this so far? " are you willing to coordinate such a trip?" My answer? "Yes, get me the name(s) of the people involved I'd need to contact"... and that's been it so far... To take it a step further, Why not coordinate ALL alum groups in Ohio and do the same thing...focus on an early season game, when hopefully weather etc. is better... 2 buses from Clev., 1 from Lorain, 1 from Columbus, 1 from Dayton/Cincy area etc. could bring in at least 500/700+ extra people to the game. We'll see what happens in Cleve. and whether or not we can get some follow through on this.

You've just identified a very simple, surefire way to generate better attendance. Shouldn't chapters in the surrounding areas (Cleveland, Detroit, etc.) - really any within an hour or so - be organizing trips to every home game?

This should be one component of an entire subsection (i.e. alumni) for a marketing plan.

But what you described is a simple thing that should be done right away.

Casual needs to buck up and accept that the school up north is a buch of cry babies.
First of all.. the Doyt doesn't seat 30,000 anymore since we took out the seats in the south end zone.. so get your facts straight before sounding off.
As for fair-weather fans.. sure every team has some, but you won't find any fair-weather falcon fans here, so beat it.

Hmmm...2 ranked teams on a Sat afternoon? That would have been BG/NIU....31,007 fans. Sellout. Next?

BG/UT last yr....29,701 fans....sellout. Of course BG was the only ranked team in that game, remember?
