Great post, 'whatbgshouldbe'. Welcome aboard and thanks for sharing the insight!

I'd love to find someone with BG ties, but not necessarily as the primary qualification.

Welcome to the board whatbgshouldbe, and thanks for the insight.

I'd LOVE to pick your brain about your impressions re: Urban & Brandon as head coaches...feel free to stick around and share. You've got experience inside the team that the rest of us have no clue about.

Ferraro? From what I remember, he was a very intense individual. Players had a lot of respect for him. Kind of a "take no crap" mentality. I liked him.

Wow...Beckman to UT. Very interesting...never saw that coming.

Thanks for the comments, whatbgshouldbe. I ALWAYS love hearing former players talk about what it was like to play at BG and for what coach (es). The Vince Palko reference was great...hell of a player in his day.

I am waiting on pins and needles to see who the new coach is.

I had 1470 on in the car when I was coming back from lunch and I caught the intro with Norm as they were going to the press conference to introduce coach Beckman at UT. I don't know what his sources are, but Norm reported that BG really wanted him as well and there almost became something of a race between the two schools to sign him, and UT obviously won.

I find it hard to believe they were ready to move on signing a new coach already, but it is interesting. I don't think we'll ever get a real straight answer, but I'm curious if UT just stole our #1 choice.

whatbgshouldbe, I value your point of view, but Beckman has been a successful coach at every stop and well regarded. I think he did a good job while at BG, or were his defenses so talented they didn't need to be coached? For someone that has so many negative aspects to him he has landed some good jobs Both OSU jobs and now Toledo, even being chosen over a former Toledo player in Eberflus. Good luck in your search and may the traditions at both schools continue to be bright.

Ok, since you touched on the issue to some extent, I have to wonder, did Beckman prefer Toledo to BG? I mean, he's been here, he knows what BG is, he should be hating UT, right? Yet at a point in time when he would be a candidtate for both jobs, he picks Toledo before BG even gets to talk to him possibly. Is there anything we could read into this? Gotta say, if we seriously wanted Beckman, I'm disappointed he picked the arch rival of a school he already coached at and was also a candidate for.

Not to speak for him, but I believe he just felt that he did not have good "HEAD" coaching skills which can be different than having "specialty" coaching skills.

Also, Beckman was here several years ago and has probably progressed while being at OSU and OSU...lol

$360K a year would be one incentive to pick a school over it's rival with whom you have no ties other than coaching history. Even if BG finds the funds to raise the next coach's salary, I'd think that $360K would be on the very high end of what we can offer. Whatever... it's not like Doyt Perry is taking the UT job.
