Moving On

Wyoming: Sources tell us that Bowling Green offensive line coach Matt Campbell informed his players this afternoon that he is heading to Wyoming with Dave Christensen. We have also learned that Missouri staffer Jason Ray will be hired at Wyoming.

Auburn: Birmingham News is reporting that Auburn has dismissed head football coach Tommy Tuberville.

Sad. I thought he did well over the years. Not this year though.

If this is indeed true, it is a huge loss. Coach Campbell was one of the best and most respected coaches on the team.

I'm not the insider that you or many others around here are, but I thought Coach Campbell looked like a true up-and-comer. He did a nice job with an inexperienced line and brought in the highly touted linemen last year. He and Ward were two guys that I was really hoping would get a shot in some capacity with the new coaching staff.

Yes, Campbell is one that should not have gotten away. He did a great job on this year line and did recruit all the studs last year. He will be a HC in the future, no doubt.

I hope Ward does stick around but he may be plucked soon too.

I personally was hoping for Campbell to be the next HC here. He is still young so I am guessing that may be part of it, but he really knew how to get the respect of the players and was a very smart coach. No doubt in my mind he will get a HC gig in the near future.

Moves like this also highlight the importance of getting a new coach in here as soon as possible (while finding the best man for the job). I can hardly blame Coach Campbell for jumping at a new opportunity while his future at BG is unknown. Good luck to him in 11 of 12 games next year.

It's my understanding that he was also responsible for recruiting the NE Ohio area...and has done an excellent job in establishing rapport with HS coaches in the area... this could prove to be a bigger loss than we'd like to see.

Matt's a Stark County guy who graduated from Perry High and from Mount Union. His dad, Rick, was at one time football coach at Jackson, and, he was my high school principal.
I wish him luck, but more so, wish that he was staying in BG.
