3500 fans see Mac Championship game!

Post by zete »

I think there were more fans at the BGSU - Buffalo game than there were at the Championship game at Ford Field. I guess the Greater Detroit Area didn't really care much to see a #12 MAc team. Maybe more will come out to the Motor City Bowl.

There won't be anyone at the Motor City Bowl unless MSU is there. That isn't happening, so that game may have fewer than 3500 fans. Last i saw they're projecting Buffalo and NC State...gulp...

Last night during the game they were talking about a BSU vs Notre Dame. Now that would sell the place out.

Buffalo accepted a bid to the International Bowl, which makes sense for them.

Actual attendance was 12K or so (announced, at least) I think we realized in '03 how those big stadiums can swallow up even decent crowds.

Makes perfect sense for them to be in Toronto.

Did not realize until last night when the announcers were talking and said it's faster from Buffalo to Detroit to go through Canada.

Anyone know Turner Gill's contract situation? I'd imagine he'd be a choice for some BCS schools (like he was rumored last year) but to take UB from where it was, to Conference Champs is a big accomplishment.

Doubt it. You think 50,000+ Notre Dame fans are going to show up to watch their team play Ball State in a cold weather city? Now that matchup would probably generate the biggest attendence but I wouldn't forsee a sellout.

My mother a devout Catholic would jump at the chance to see Notre Dame play. I would like to see it happen for MCB, but they will put some CUSA team in there I bet.

I would hate to see a C-USA team in the MCB because the GMAC Bowl already matches up the MAC and C-USA. Give me a big name team there.

Not to sure if this would happen anytime soon, but I would love to see them move the MAC title game back to the campus sites. It could rotate between the East and the West each year. The game could still be televised and would have a lot more atmosphere than what has been displayed the last couple of years in Detroit. I am sure tickets are not cheap for the game in Detroit, either.

I think this is what CUSA does, sorry, and they get a pretty good turnout.

that's not going to happen since Notre Dame will not be going to the MCB.

Bowl committees will select an available 6-6 Notre Dame squad over other bowl eligible Big East squads. Wjther its right or not, ND won't be available wjhen the MCB selects an opponent for Ball State.

I think the International Bowl should make the teams play 12 to a side, three down football on a 110 yeard field with 20 yard deep endzones, goalposts on the goal line and rouges, rouges, rouges!

Might this soon be our only bowl? I mean counting on GMAC and the "Big" 3 for sponsorships can't be a good thing and cutting sponsorships of bowl games might be the sort of things the clowns in congress would want to see.

Bowl committees have to take all the 7-5 (or better) teams first, before they can look at any 6-6 team. So all the Big East schools with winning records need to be picked first.

On Friday night, during an interview, Rick Chryst had the opportunity to knock down the idea of Notre Dame playing in Detroit, and he did not do so.

We'll see.

And, on the MAC championship: If we were to move it back outdoors, then it should probably be hosted at the stadium of the participant with the best record.
