You notice how UT has to use former BG coaches to improve themselves? While it is nice that UT does have a medical and law school that does not translate to sports. Look at Harvard if academics and sports went hand in hand they would be the top 5 in everything. Now they may be good at rowing and some other sports that only rich people care about, but everything else they suck at. I would say every job at the MAC is pretty even. The MAC goes in cycles, and when a coach can produce a winner they are usually hired away, and the program goes down for a few years. I don't know what UT's excuse is, because Tommy Boy was there for a while, but going to UT is no step up. You want to talk about facilities, BG has the Stroh(sp) Center opening up, the Sebo Center in place, we've had an indoor facility (yes I know it could be upgraded), and many other improvements that University has enjoyed. When you look at it since the start of this decade BG has had the better sports resume.

Oh one more thing, since we pay so low we get the best value out of our coaches. Does that make our administration smarter? Besides I rather less money go to coaches and more of it go to the professors that make a university what it is. Sure the magazines don't say, but BG has some of the best professors around. No I'm not kissing AZZ, I have already graduated.

Beckmans a good choice, I trust our next HC will be better.

And the comment about TPS was a low blow, many factors go into salaries and hopefully the Toledo poster didn't google/wikipedia that nothern virginia salary thing. If so... get a hobby

Yes it does, indirectly. It helps with recruiting. Barry Church chose Toledo back in 2006 because of the medical school, which at the time was already announced it was merging with UT that summer. Clint Cochran chose UT because of it too. He turned out to not be the best player, but he has since been admitted to the Medical College.

As for former coaches. BG is considering Matt Eberflus as head coach. He was a star linebacker at UT and an assistant coach at UT as well. Phil Parker had been an assistant at BG with Brandon. Parker played football at Toledo. And I am sure there have been others. In the coaching profession, that stuff doesn't matter like it does to us fans.

For just a little more pay in the grand scheme of things Toledo won two MAC Championships and 4 MAC West Division Titles since 2001 under Amstutz. Brandon and Meyer had what.......1 division title and zero MAC Championships in that same span? How are you getting more value out of them?

If this is true, I think GC has made a BAD mistake not offering some incentive to keep these guys in BG and he better get it in gear getting a HC at BG or he will lose a complete recruiting class!
Getting back to topic.....dont' feel so bad. We've since hired two away from Oklahoma State, plus of course Beckman was from Oklahoma State. We hired one of their GA's and their Director of Recruiting as well.

Dude, its not about what colors you bleed. Its about the difference between Toledo and BGSCC. The difference that the Kool aid drinkers around here refuse to acknowledge is that though Toledo and BG are in the same conference, Toledo is considered a "step-up". Its not like these gentlemen are making lateral career moves here, they are taking giant steps up. No one likes to get stuck in BG too long, because after awhile you realize that your career will end up in the crapper. Coach Brandon realized that before he took the red eye flight out to UNLV to beg for that job. If he would have landed that gig, im sure the sky would have been the limit for Coach Brandon. Instead he was unable to get the UNLV gig and ended up watching his career tank out in front of BG's pathetic fans. his words, not mine. Urban realized it when he said that if you knew him or his family you would know that BG is the place for him. A week after making those comments he left for Utah. A lateral move? To you folks in AZZ land, sure it is. But to everyone else in the know, it was definitely a step up and a step in the right direction.

I welcome Coaches Ward and Campbell into the Rocket family. Hopefully they can help restore Toledo back to the top of the MAC where they belong.
TJ,

Please tell me you don't believe this. UT and BG are very similar and have their differences as well. UT to BG or BG to UT is a lateral move. Both have advantages and disadvantages.

As for the assistants, in these uncertain times, they were offered jobs and took them. There was no guarantee they would have jobs with BG and the new staff. They did what they felt they needed to do...I will never find fault in that.

There is a reason TPS pays more than BG City Schools, and there is a reason Alaska pays more for their teachers than Florida, in general. I don't think there are many people who would rate the TPS bertter than the BG schools and the same applies to UT. It's all about choice, and if that is what you like, so be it, but you won't persuade any people here!
As for the other poster commenting about the win over Toledo.....well, you finally won at Toledo again. How long did it take? Go back the last 20 years and see what the record is in the UT/BG rivalry. Guess what? It is 10-10. How about the last 40 years? It is 20-20. Now that's a rivalry!
rf,

I noticed that as well. And it DOES make for a fierce rivalry! Maybe we should look at the overall series since the last 4 decades have been split down the middle. 38-31-4. But it has been very even for a long time...makes this rivalry the best.

Who says Ward and Campbell wouldn't return to BG if made an offer by the new coach?

Ward, maybe. But Campbell likes to stick to his word. When he takes a new job, he sticks with it for at least three days. :-D

I am not hung up on them, and I know for a fact that when new management comes in, they usually like to bring their own people. I just didn't like the fact that some UT people think UT is this step up. Right now I can't see one MAC HC leaving his school for another MAC school.

One more thing, being a teacher myself I can say the pay sucks. Teachers in Northern Virginia, I work with a few who come from there, do make good money. However when you balance that out with the cost of living in Northern Virginia, it seems like they make 30k a year. Teachers who had moved away from that area said they would never be able to own a house.

To combat that cost of living thing, they are now giving teachers incentives that come from other areas of the country. The school system in Fairfax County owns houses that they let their teachers and their families live in rent-free. Also, the cost of housing in Northern Virginia has gone down a lot in the last 18 months. I'm living in a 3,500 square foot house with 5 bedrooms, 3 1/2 baths, a basement, and a 2 1/2 car attached garage on about 1/2 an acre and am only paying $2,100 per month for it. Most of the houses in Northern Virginia cost about $100K to $150K less than they did 18 months ago, and even then you are bound to find some better deals than that if you look.
