Autograph session after Bluffton game

Post by BGorDeath »

Last night, after the Bluffton game, the team had an autograph session for fans. I must say that I am thoroughly impressed with how our players present themselves in public. I took my three year old son over and let him meet the entire team. I had my son tell each player how good one particular part of their game was that night and each player truly appreciated the effort my learning to talk son was putting forth. Mawel was giving him high fives, Josh and Germain were shaking his hand and John Reimold was asking him how old he was and the like. All of the players seemed truly please the my son and others were staying to meet them and get their autographs. What an outstanding group of young gentlemen we have representing our university. I cannot say enough about them!

As a side, the players were signing the big poster schedules. I personally tried to get John Floyd to draw a mustache on Reimold's picture. He thought hard about it, but decided not to. Now, that is a teammate.

They are a very classy bunch of guys. All of them I have met are very nice as well. Sometimes people get the idea athletes are stuck up or think they are better than everyone else but here at BG, ALL of them are great people!

I think this is telling about our coaching staff as much as our players. Dakich has said since day one, he won't tolerate "Knuckle-Heads." We recruit good boys and they become better men for being in the program. I truly believe this and am proud to help fund this process! (shameless Falcon Club plug!)

Thanks for the great report BGorDEATH!

Did you get any photos of your son and the players??

I did not have a camera with me. My wife and I always talk about how we should take a camera to every game with us, but always forget. At least we remember diapers!

I was going to comment about how the a team is a reflection of its coaching staff. For all of the criticism Coach D. takes for his sideline behavior, he and his staff turn out gentlemen upon graduation. If our team does not always win on the court, we can always be assured that our players will model citizens upon graduation. If they do make a mistake after graduation, the coach and staff do not immediately abandon them.

And if you would like another shameless plug for the Falcon Club, if you are a member and have not renewed your membership, please do so immediately. The more the Falcon Club raises, the less the athletic budget has to allocate to scholarships. This money can be spent on facilities and coaches. End of shameless plug.

Trent Jackson must have been sleeping during this period, didn't he just got out of jail for something???

I stated that if they do make a mistake, the staff does not immediately abandon them. That was a reference to Mr. Jackson, which I did not think I needed to name again for the umpteenth time on this site. Coach and staff gave Trent numerous second chances for assistance upon his departure from the program to help him graduate. However, after his run in with the law, they severed ties, as they should have. There is only so much you can do for some people, and Coach D., his staff and BGSU did all they could.

Amen to all the above. I am impressed with most all the BG athletes, but, on the men's side, it is hard to beat a Dan Dakich coached bunch as far as their interaction with the public and overall conduct,

Our coaches do a great job in this area. By the way, I am also very impressed with new assistant Lamonta Stone. Very sincere type person in my opinion.

Go Falcons!
