Wish all you want. Ward ain't comin' back. I can see that from about 2500 miles away.

I'm OK with this hire...I like the HC experience. A bit concerned about the lack of OH ties and division 1A....(I refuse to call it the "bowl series") experience....y'know..networking, hiring assistants...

I really do think the success as a HC will trump all that. Welcome to BG Coach Clawson!!

I think this is a terrible article. Everyone speaks highly of Ryan and I do too but he seems to be somewhat negative here and not too excited about this hire. Am I wrong?

It's kind of funny that his name almost reads as dawson when spelled with a lower case d:

clawson

Anyway, we did not hire him to be our OC so the Tennessee successes or lack thereof should not matter all that much.

I think this was just a quick article to beat a deadline and get a story out there, so it is not going to have anything other than some statistics.

I'm so freaking happy to hear this!

Of all the candidates who were thrown about this was the ONE guy who had me really excited. The guy had great success at both Fordham & Richmond. I visited both of their message boards and they love the guy. They follow his career the same way we follow Urban's, both schools look at him as the guy that turned their programs around from the brink.

This year at Tennessee was a disappointment, but he was starting a first year starter at QB. It was also the entire teams first, and only, year in his system, and they did not have a strong OL at all.

One thing that somebody from Richmond mentioned is that his offense is great once it starts working, but that it's a very complex scheme for collegiate ball. Apparently he's very intelligent, and expects his players to be as well. The Richmond fan mentioned that it will take awhile for kids to get used to this scheme, but once they hit year two it starts to hit its stride. This, too, could explain some of the issues that Tennessee had this year. Oh, and FWIW, he obviously built Richmond pretty well, they're still going in the 1AA playoffs.

He was twice the 1AA national coach of the year, doing it at two different schools.

Welcome to the nest Coach Clawson. How much longer until the spring game? I cannot wait to see this play out!

Bingo. I didn't read any opinion in this article at all...it's just a reporting of facts.

Coach Ward got a three year contract at UT so I doubt he would come back.
