The Wyoming game

Post by zete »

This one I haven't seen brought up: Go figure - We blast Wyoming out there something like 45-7, and they (Wyoming) go the Tennessee and beat Tennessee. We soon thereafter fire our coach and hire their offensive coordinator...

Don't Judge Coach Clawson by a former game

Post by kentuckianacoach »

It is obvious that last season was a tough one for our new head coach. That being said his head coaching track record is amazing! As a football coach, I am very impressed with Coach Clawson. His one statement of not forcing players to conform to a certain scheme, but rather formulate his offense and defense to the talent on the field is a winning combination! :!:

You also can't ignore that UT (Tenn) played that game against Wyoming just three or four days after Fulmer announced he would be stepping down at the end of the season. The man had been head coach there since I believe '92 or '93, and for a lot of people was synonymous with Tennessee athletics in general, not just football. So I think that shake up, on top of having a team that was already falling apart can definitely be considered a factor in their inability to execute against Wyoming.

And by the way, nobody seems to be pointing to the Northern Illinois games... We lost to them, but UT beat them.

Zete, don't forget that "The CLAW" (Offensive Coordinator for TN), only got to put 1 out of 4 plays into action. Full didn't let him utilize his plays because the players didn't understand the concept, or couldn't grasp the scheme. Remember, TN was trying to convert to a WIDE OPEN SPREAD "O" that we've been playing for years.

I think "THE CLAW" is a good fit for BG! He also likes to incorporate some good running into the schema. I think the running was something we lacked which made us ultra predictable. I just hope and pray that the infamous "slow QB dominating the running game days are ova!" Don't panic, I think "THE CLAW" will bring us much success! Check his record.

The rematch should be interesting...

Wyoming fired Joe Glenn and hired Missouri's OC Dave Christensen. The Falcons hired Tennessee's OC. Wyoming beat Tennessee because for once the Poke's anemic offense didn't shoot itself in the foot. Wyoming's defense picked off two Vols passes for scores and held them to one TD. If Christensen can get the Cowboys offense to perform a third of the production that Mizzou had, they'll have improved a 100 percent over last year. Hopefully, Wyoming can make the return game with the Falcons more competitive.
