Probably not 7-3, but definitely a few inches taller than Polk/Larson.transfer2BGSU wrote:Detroit was without their leading scorer. And I do not think their big man is really 7-3.
Detroit played absolutely terribly. Our offense looked completely lost at times, but we put up a good effort on defense. It's a good win, but it was an ugly ass game.

My take is a little different. I thought our defensive effort was outstanding. At times, it seemed like there were 6 or 7 white jerseys out there. Our halfcourt defense was stifling and it seemed like we got a hand on the ball every time Detroit got in the half court. They could not get any offensive continuity. They got very few clean looks. Nothing uncontested. They didn't breach the 20 point mark until 12:55 in the second half. Marcshall and Larson in particular played tough, low post position D. If we can keep up that kind of defensive intensity, we'll be in the hunt for the MAC East.hammb wrote:Probably not 7-3, but definitely a few inches taller than Polk/Larson.transfer2BGSU wrote:Detroit was without their leading scorer. They had a small defender on Jakubowski. He was a very effective on-the-ball defender and he forced turnovers and bad decisions out of Jak. They had Brown looking bad for a stretch out there as well.
You know, I think that Detroit center might have been 7-3. He was at least 7-1. He towered over Polk.

By comparison, last year's BG spring football game was Citizen Kane.hammb wrote:Probably not 7-3, but definitely a few inches taller than Polk/Larson.transfer2BGSU wrote:Detroit was without their leading scorer. And I do not think their big man is really 7-3.

Detroit's shooting (besides free throws) was absolutely terrible for most of the game. Especially the first half. Our defense was great, but I wouldn't say that they were the only reason Detroit was scoring so low.
Free throws seemed to be a problem though. Detroit moved up the ladder quickly because they made them, and we fell down the ladder quickly because we missed quite a few. What I think was a 20+ point quickly shrunk down in the 2nd half because we couldn't capitalize on them.

Wow. The lowest point total by an opponent in 44 years. Whether it was because of our defense or despite it, that's pretty impressive! GO BG!

Wow. For a long time I wasn't sure they were going to get to 30. We played great defense.TG1996 wrote:Wow. The lowest point total by an opponent in 44 years. Whether it was because of our defense or despite it, that's pretty impressive! GO BG!

Our offense needs some serious work. We still do not have a guard that shows the ability to consistently get the ball to our bigs when they're in good position. Our guys were getting where they wanted on the block a lot last night but the guards could not get the ball into them.
When Detroit went to a zone I really have no idea what our offensive philosophy was. We didn't do anything to really attack the zone at all. We scored some points and took them out of it, but that was by Clements & B-Mo making long three pointers. It's been years since I can remember seeing a BG team actually attack a zone defense and get good looks.
Whether or good defense or atrocious play by Detroit (personally I think it was a combo of the two) the game was not a pretty one. Oh, I especially liked the time they gave Miller 3 tries to hit the front end of a one-and-one (back to back lane violations) and not only did he miss all 3, but they actually got progressively worse. It has to be mental with him at this point, it was brutal.
