The view on BG from outside

As part of the mid-season review the Western College Hockey Blog has this to say about BG:

Bowling Green is a team that seems like it should be higher than 9th in the league. They've got one of the better top lines in the league with Dan Sexton, David Solway, and Brandon Svendsen.

There's been two problems for BG so far though. The first is in goal. Jimmy Spratt has a save percentage of .881 so far this year, which is pretty much what he has averaged for his career. Nick Eno is a promising young goalie, but he's been hampered by injury this year and unable to play. Second is the schedule. A third of BG's league games have been losses to Notre Dame. They've got pretty good looking splits with Alaska and Nebraska-Omaha, so they can beat good teams. Their second half schedule isn't easy, but they should be better than they were in the first half.

Problem #1 that he listed should hopefully be taken care of within the next month. I hate to rip on Spratt, but like that blog said, that save percentage has been around his career average for the last four years. That has to be around the worst in the league every year. For us to beat teams like ND our goalie has be awesome. Spratt has proven time and time again that he just isn't that guy.

As for problem #2, we still have to play both Miami and Michigan twice in January. We're probably going to have to sweep NMU, OSU and Ferris State if we want to even have a chance at a .500 record.

Oh well, Chris at the WCH blog has probably never played DI goalie so who is he to say?

haha imagine that. I don't really like to rip on anyone. He's pretty much the only player I think I've ever talked bad about. That's what happens when you're in the spotlight like a goalie. But numbers don't lie, especially when they're consistently bad from year to year. When his dad came on here it just added fuel to my fire.

Ya. My rule of thumb is a team must have goals-against less than 3 and goals-for greater than 3 to have a winning season. Who would have figured scoring would be a problem this season?

Spratt was very good against Clarkson and hopefully he can carry that forward to the second part of the season.

What do you mean when you say "problem solved in the next month" ?

What do you mean when you say "problem solved in the next month" ?

In saying that I meant that Eno would be back. Although it may take him to awhile to find his game again, hopefully it doesn't take him more than a week or so. Eno isn't an All American yet, but I think he's an improvement. Just compare their records and numbers last year when playing back to back against the same teams.

Well, as of right now I don't think we have any commitments or signings for a new goalie. I think people were talking about this is another thread last week. I believe somebody said that Greer was on scholarship, which was a surprise to me. So maybe he's the backup. Let's just pray Eno doesn't have another bad injury next year.

i would have to say the chances are good that they bring a guy in on scholarship next year so they have a good young guy behind eno.. no point in bringing a guy in purely for a 3rd string role with this injury that eno had this year, ankle injuries seem to come back at the oddest times...
