Tough way to get a winning record
GC needs to start with the fact that Hockey, as a sport at BGSU is a different culture than any other. Frankly it does draw more deeply on grass roots support, blue collar types, etc. You might not raise funds the same way as you might with the grand and glorious campaigns for other sports and venues.

Great work on those stats Freddie ! That is a shameful 18 years for this
program. If that doesn't make things clear to everyone nothing will.
As far as fundraising we have many high profile BG alums in the NHL
in many capacities along with former coaches and NHL retirees that BG
can tap for significant donations like we did for the new locker room area.
I did speak to Christopher last year about the arena and asked him abouit raising the roof etc. and he said it would be cost prohibitive and if that was the case it would cost as much to build new. New is what we need.
Believe me if you put Rob Blake out front with this we can easily raise
5 to 10 million. Heck, Blake and Emerson alone gave close to 2 million if I'm correct for the locker room expansion. We can't half-ass this it's too
important to the program especially recruiting. If the word gets out the former players will with $$$$ will GIVE.

If memory serves me the whole cost of the Alumni room, locker room , etc was about $ 750,000. Rob and Nellie did contribute very nicely, but not those numbers.
There are those NHL Alumni that have never "given back". Probably a host of reasons.
I still think that local support, corporate support, alumni support - if the Administration decided to go for a MAJOR renovation that included expanding the arena west, north and east to include facilities for baseball, softball and Tennis we could easily raise basketball like $$$s. Doing this would include baseball alumni.

As GC is buying out Greg Brandon he is getting money from donations, markets and begging.
For the record "I know nothing"! That said, it would be financially better for GC to buy Paluch out after Christmas, than to wait until April.

I'm not saying that the Ice Arena doesn't need renovation or replacement, but the building is NOT the first logical step. It starts with personnel. Notre Dame has gone from 'rags to riches' in three short years... while playing in that lousy excuse of an arena.
Admin needs to understand that the CCHA is the hockey equivalent to the Big10 in football or basketball. The MAC model of hiring assistant coaches from 'big time' programs as HEAD coaches just won't fly. While I'll admit to thinking Paluch was a good hire at the time, let's face it...it hasn't worked out. The next guy ought to have a proven track record (as a head coach), and a high profile... and we (the boosters and ticket buyers) had better understand that he'll cost some serious coin.

Freddie and Puckhead. All good information. Sorry about my nunbers for the Blake / Emerson donations I got bad info. from another alum. Next time I'll double-check first. I absolutely agree with the coaching part and that a commitment has to start at the top. I guess my question to you guys is can we start here and get the word out to BG hockey supporters that we need to join together to work the President / Trustees etc.
I also agree with what ND has done at the Joyce but I'm sure that alums
are lining up now to help fund a new building. However this is the best
example of getting an experienced no nonsense game savvy coach. When you're the King it's easy to ask for money.
I bring up a new arena only to help boost recruiting, but I will certainly take even cosmetic updates. The alums and supporters in town have a better handle on the money issues and who at the top can best help us.
Give us your opinions on moving forward.

I didn't take it as an attack. I've just seen a bunch about who people think should take over. Never once have I heard anybody say anything about the person behind the bench that actually HAS HEAD coaching experience.bghockeyfan wrote:pdt i wasn't attacking you. you always seem to take that approach when someone asks you a question. please relax. in your opinion, should williams take over? i agree he has an outstanding record from that link.

Coach Paluch has never had a winning record as a head coach, and is 78-130-23 all-time. If he hasn't succeeded after 7 years, he isn't going to.
I think there's a distinct possibility that we could be looking at the final week with Pooch behind the bench. We can promote one of the assistants on a interim basis through the end of the year, and we'd give our interim guy a few weeks to gel into the position.
And no, I have no sources or inside information, just an educated guess.

If you have no mysterious and unnamed sources than you're worthless. Back to your seat.BGDrew wrote: And no, I have no sources or inside information, just an educated guess.
I think you're right. I wanted Paluch to succeed and gave him more of my patience than was prudent. The second half of last season was my realization that pooch just wasn't going to get it done. He may be another Brandon: good assistant, lousy head.

All I know, is that there will be a massive "Parade of Ex-Coaches Homes" tour this spring.
