For a year and a half now, I have sat idly by and listened to you idiots talk about how bad of a coach Scott Paluch is. You really cannot blame a coach if the highly talented players that he recruits wash up and decide to leave. My issue with Cepis is that everytime I talked to him, he was a jerk about everything. If he didn't like Pooch, then why did he commit here?

My other problem lies with you, the "fans". I have heard you talk about how you want to "boycott" the program, and raise money to help buy out Pooch's contract. Why not donate that money to the program, so that maybe we can get better? If you really want our program to get better, you wouldn't be organizing boycotts and buy outs. I am sick of you being unloyal, backstabbing, fair-weather "fans". You need to step up and stop acting like spoiled little children. Nobody can just step in and raise this program to a national championship in one year. Grow up, and start supporting your team!
Unloyal, backstabbing, fair-weather "fans"??? Acting like spoiled little children??? You know SQUAT, or worse yet you KNOW and yet choose to not admit it. I HAVE and WILL continue to support the program, and make every effort to encourage others to do likewise. I believe that gives me the right (and even the OBLIGATION) to speak out when I see this great program being destroyed.

Lil' Curlz, I'm not going to quote your post so you can have a chance to go back and delete part of it. The part about the fans. You have absolutely no clue how long some people on this board have been around this program. I for one, have missed maybe 10 home games at most since the '93-94 season...when I was old enough to actually start understanding the game. I'm probably one of the more recent "loyal" fans on this board and in the stands. Actually, I'll guarantee that I'm one of the more recent loyal fans. There are a lot of people on here that have been supporting this program since long before I was born. To see someone make a post like your absolutely pisses me off. I can only imagine how they feel. You know, to have someone who obviously knows very little about the sport or hockey and the traditions that go along with it here at BGSU call them out and say they are "fairweather" fans.

Do you know how many active D1 head coaches have career winning percentages below .400?

I was suprised to see that there are eight.

Do you know how many of these guys have held on to their jobs in to or past a seventh season?

Three (counting Pooch). The other two work at true hockey juggernaughts: Bentley and American International. If your definition of a 'good job' includes dragging our program down to that level, I feel sorry for you.

LOWEST CAREER WINNING % AMOUNG ACTIVE D1 HEAD COACHES:
Danton Cole 2nd season @ Alabama-Huntsville .244
Mark Dennehey 5th year @ Merrimack .248
Dave Shyiak 4th year @ Alaska-Anchorage .328
Jamie Russell 6th year @ Michigan Tech .336
Dave Smith 4th year @ Canisius .357
Ryan Soderquist 7th year @ Bentley .367
Scott Paluch 7th year @ BGSU .369
Gary Wright 26th year at American Int'l .389

About the Fans

There's a difference between bearing a fair-weather fan and having pride in your team/university. Obviously, anyone who cares enough to still come on this board and ponder the Falcon program is not a "fair-weather" fan. For those who have such a passion for Falcon hockey (or any team for that matter), it's difficult to just sit by and watch your team go down the drain. Questioning the coach or even demanding a change doesn't mean you're disloyal -- it means you care about your team and you want them to succeed, especially the players who are busting their butts every day.

One person mentioned boycott. Others mentioned to buy out.

That hardly defines a fanbase which is "fair weather."

I'm not sure you could possibly reason that Paluch is doing a good job by any standard. I have been one of Pooch's best defenders only because I wanted him to succeed. I changed my tune late last year. It's time for a change.

This isn't personal. I wish him the best, but his best isn't happening at BGSU - and you should wake up to that fact.

To refocus on the issue at hand: Wasn't Cepis recruited by Kevin Patrick? The same Kevin Patrick who is now an assistant at Wisconsin?

I'm not tryin to spread rumors... but don't be surprised when Cepis isn't the last one to leave the team.

I know for a fact... majority of the players do not like pooch... and yes it is time for him to go... mediocrity is no longer acceptable...

Our tradition is better than below .400 hockey

Lil Curtz is clueless. Just because we slipped into the playoffs last year means nothing. You have to look at how we won games last year and who we beat. Losing Cepis is a disaster. He was our next big offensive player and the huge drop off in production has nothing to do with his talent. After losing Whitmore we all knew we would still struggle offensively and that was
with Cepis. 6 plus years of bad hockey is enough ! I graduated in 1986 and have done nothing put praise and push our hockey program from nearly 6 hours away. I have given directly to the program for the last decade to "help" get things right. I try each year to get back to town for a football / hockey or
hockey / basketball doubleheader and have brought my family with me to show them what a special place BG is . I am grateful for all the BG hockey fans who are there game in and game out to support the "student athletes" because other alums like myself can't be there. I will ask Lil Curtz what they have done to "help" the program. The rest of us are here because we are involved in some way to support and help make this program better than mediocre. Having Maxwell and especially Cepis leave should be the last straw for Greg Christopher. Noone is going to support a poorly run / coached program and donate more for Ice arena renovations
without major changes NOW !! :smt021

I don't know if I ever see this program returning to anything close to a legitimate contender for the CCHA. College sports are about facilities nowadays, and ours bite the big one.
I'm a hockey lover and a big BG hockey fan, but if they aren't going to try to field a winning program then why have a program at all? Hockey is too expensive a sport to not compete in. I'd rather see those funds go somewhere where they'd have a return.

The Univ has done squat for Falcon hockey since the late 80's. The school has had several chances to keep the program on top, and to bring it back as is the current case.
I have long been a support of the current head coach, time and again saying he needs time. At this point he has had plenty. I thought long ago when he first started and had some player issues, he should have cowboyed up and kicked them to the curb, take his licks and start building. He did not, still took his licks, but now having top players leave, (including Unice a goalie who would have made a very positive impact, no offense to our current tenders, but he is a better goalie.) You dont just loose the guys you bring in like this.
To make this Coaching change the Univ will have to take some time, make some promises to help out and actually support the program a bit more. BG is a great hockey School, there is no reason we can not get another GREAT coach in here esp if the UNIV makes some promises and looks for the right coach.

Hockey is the only sport at BG that we will ever be able to do anything in, because it is the only sport in which we are member of a major conference. Basketball, might be able to make a sweet sixteen, maybe, big freakin' deal. Football, c'mon, I guess maybe we could become a UC. A lame champion of a horrible league that is not even on par with the other BCS conferences. I don't see the Big East sending us any invites in the near future though. I have never understood why at BG, and this goes back to the 70's, we are always throwing money at things we will never be. Things that we can never become, yet the one true "National" program we had, we just let die by the side of the road.

I went to my 1st hockey game in 1977. I was at the home NCAA game with CC in 78. The loss in Minny at old Williams arena in 79. The first ever CCHA's at the Joe in 82, the OT losses to MSU and WMU in 83 and 84. Lake Placid in 84. Home NCAA's against Vermont etc.....This program was a juggernaut once.....once.

Kruzer works out here at Polar Ice. Nesdill was back in the summer. I asked both those guys what the hell has happened. They both say that the University just stopped caring about the program.........

Maybe you are right, if the University isn't going to support the sport that has given it the ONLY real NATIONAL TITLE it has ever won.....then just do away with it, because seeing it be what it has been for over a decade now is just to hard to watch anymore. We are basically the Michigan Tech of the CCHA.....a program that was once the best, but now just lives off memories and wins from 20 years ago. So sad.......

AZIce and cw08, your line of thinking is depressing the hell out of me!! :(

I will NEVER, EVER feel we should give up the hockey program....NEVER, EVER.....EVER!!!!   Have I made my feelings clear? And, I know I'm not alone on this!!

Icers: Congrats on the win tonight!!

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."
