Yes, the MACC. Two ranked teams. None of the other MAC Championship games we hosted, including this year, was two ranked teams. It really does't matter. the gist of my post had very little to do with one game here or there. the gist of the post is tradition and fan support. Hard to argue what I am saying. I am saying that we have a better fan support, across the board, in every sport, than BG.
It does not matter how small your town is. You claim your fan support is so numbered and so loyal. I don't see it. We are two schools of nearly the same size within twenty minutes of each other. One has a great tradition of fan support and the other does not.
I think it is getting better for both schools. And listen, I don't know or care exactly how many seats your stadium seats, you average about 60-70% capacity. There-in lies your problem and the problem with your statement that the BG fan support is superior to Toledo, in any sport. Name one sport that we both have that BG outdraws Toledo? None.

A more interesting question would be this:
Does Bowling Green or Toledo travel better?
I'd submit we do. It's an open question, but that would be my guess.
We put more fans in seats in the Gund. We did a great job last year at the Motor City Bowl. Old timers said we did pretty well sending people to Fresno, Calif. and Las Vegas.
I'm not sure travel is the No. 1 issue for the GMAC. No. 1 might be a good matchup. We score points, Memphis scores points... I just think they figured we were a little more fun to watch.

Wow
I had formed the opinion that about five or ten posters on this board and the ncaabbs board were actually reasonable, level headed, and understanding people. That theory was just about shot about everyone that I gained this respect for when I read this thread. I posted about it on the ncaabbs board. I don't understand how people can have such a difficult time reading that which is printed on the page. To get an interpretation of what the article means, please click the link and read my first [and only] post on that thread so far. GD

Harris is an idiot
It was a feeble attempt by Harris to rip the MAC and help promote his TU to Conference USA agenda. Brennan came across as being as much of an idiot as Harris. That's no small feat.
Interesting there was no mention in the column of Miami getting a bowl with a bigger payout or Marshall also getting a bowl bid before the MAC championship.

That was my take.Tswam wrote:It was a feeble attempt by Harris to rip the MAC and help promote his TU to Conference USA agenda. Brennan came across as being as much of an idiot as Harris. That's no small feat.
No...but that's the funny part. At least one other Blade story has reported that bowl revenue is shared equally. The point, such that it was, is wholly irrelevant.Interesting there was no mention in the column of Miami getting a bowl with a bigger payout or Marshall also getting a bowl bid before the MAC championship.
FWIW: The buzz is that Marshall struck its own deal. If they manage to make any net profit on the bowl, they'll get to keep it. My guess is that Marshall will be very lucky to break even on that game.

Some valid points. UT has had 11 straight winning seasons and has built a strong, home game fan base. BG has had 4 winning seasons in a row. For the last 25 or so years, we've gone from 4 straight winning seasons to 4 or 5 straight losing seasons. We need to sustain our winning and, with the Gregg Brandon Show, new radio network, better coverage and TV time, our fan base will continue to build.
Keep in mind there is a much greater # of UT grads in NW Ohio than BG grads. And Toledo has a much bigger population compared to Bowling Green.

well see the GMAC bowl gets to pick who they want and they usually pick who THEY think is the best MAC team. I mean come on its obvious that we are better because we had to play our 3 toughest games on the road while Toledo got us at home. I think its safe to say that if the NIU and Toledo games were played at the Doyt this year that the outcomes would be different. On top of that, we match up the best with Memphis who is a good offensive team and we have the best offense in the MAC by far. We also have the best defense in the MAC as well and so it was about matchups I am sure and we matchup the best like I said. Anyways who cares about Toledo, we get them and NIU at HOME next year so we'll make sure to pay them back nicely for their 42 points scored in the 2nd half along with the blown calls as well. GO FALCONS.

I hate to disagree with you, but we were not the better team this year for the reason you described. We lost all three of our toughest games on the road this season - Oklahama, NIU, and TU. We are very lucky for the chance to go to the GMAC bowl this year.BGSU_via_UDel wrote:I mean come on its obvious that we are better because we had to play our 3 toughest games on the road while Toledo got us at home.
As far as the article goes, I think Mr. Brennan needs to re-evaluate his opinion and decision to talk to John Harris and look the part of a fool. TU is not academically a Big East caliber institution. Part of their enrollment problem last year was their decision not to fully fund their scholarship program and this cost them a number of local students. They have made a nice change in that program for the coming year. The TU Board of Trustees has more important things to consider rather than trying to bluff the MAC about looking for a new conference affiliation.
