Rough Start for MAC Hoops?

Post by MACReport »

J. Scott Fitzwater checks in at MAC Report Online with his thoughts on how the MAC season has gone so far....and is not shy about it either...

He will be contributing to MRO this season and providing power rankings once conference play starts as well.

I have to agree with Mr. Fitzwater on this...and it continued yesterday , as several MAC scores posted showed losses, many of them by a large margin..Miami seems to be the class of the East right now, and they've probably played the toughest schedule. Teams in the West are getting CRUNCHED, including Toledo's loss to Wright St., which hadn't won a game before.
Education our Challenge, Excellence our goal. (look it up)

Miami is a very solid team! Kent St. will be better as the year goes on, they have some serious talent. The rest of this league is terrible! I think this is the worst the league has been in a long time.

I haven't really taken the time to look at individual records, but I know that whenever I see the scores on the bottom line I'm seeing very few wins for MAC teams. Seems like every time I see the MAC scores go across ESPN we're losing games by double digits. I haven't seen any other MAC teams play yet this year, but it doesn't seem as though the league is very good right now.

The MAC is not very good this year. Even Kent State and Miami have not had good starts.

Kent State has lost 5 straight. The game that sticks out to me is getting blown out of the water @ Kansas. A young Kansas team that may end up being good but is not the Kansas everyone knows right now(lost to 2-6 UMass at home yesterday).

Miami has not been impressive thus far, although they do have a win over Temple, probably the best for the MAC thus far. They can impress by beating Dayton coming up.

Bottom line is that the MAC is way down this year.

I thought OU would be ok this year......after getting throttled by Xavier they proceed to get beat by Delaware.

Not a chance at 2 bids....again

Yes they have. 6-3 with close losses at UCLA and Xavier and all 6 wins coming by comfortable margins. Their only bad game was a blowout loss at #3 Pitt.

With they style they play they should never get blown out. Xavier is a rivalry game and is always close. Like I said it would be a good win if they could somehow win @ Dayton. Close wins are good, close losses no one cares about. And by all their wins being by comfortable margins you count a 4 point win over a 4-4 Weber State team.

I Miami has had only two home games as well. They out played Xavier for 30 plus minutes and lead most of the game. They gave UCLA all they could handle, in fact I thought the ref's did a homer job on them as well.

I agree the conference sucks this year but if Miami stays healthy they will be good enough to make a bubble list by they end of the year.

Have you guys looked at their schedule? They need to beat someone! They have to probably beat both West Virginia and Dayton. They have 1 quality win over Temple, that's not going to get them in the tournament.

They are not going to get any opportunities to impress in the MAC.

That is very true. A win over Dayton or West Virginia and a good backet buster team would maybe be enough if they go like 14-2 in the MAC (that's a tough task in the MAC).

Ahem.

Miami has the 24th best RPI in the nation.

http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/basketball/polls

That's well into at-large territory. However, maintaining that RPI through Jan and Feb will be haaard. If they can, then them losing in the MAC tourney could result in a 2nd bid for the MAC.

Let's remember that the MAC is a young conference and we have three weeks of non-MAC games to go. I predict that the MAC will suck a lot less than it has been.

RPI means nothing this early. Notre Dame has an RPI of 60.

You need those wins next to your resume, and a single OOC win against Temple will not get you in.

MAC is one bid unless Miami beat WVU, UD and only has 1 or 2 losses in the MAC and then gets beat in the MAC Tourny

And that will be about what it'll take to finish with RPI #24.

Miami gets killed today by WVU. The MAC is awful!
