See, that's the thing, would it happen the day of a game?

It might, if he were going to tell the team before the game, or the word had otherwise been spread. It could if somebody were being brought-in to sub as HC, or if one of the assistants were being tapped to do so.

If I'm GC, I'd announce it during a home stand, let the news sink-in before a road trip.

He/she didn't say it was official or announced yet. It seems to be another of the infamous "I heard from a reliable source" rumors. Surprisingly many of which have been fairly accurate lately. Still dying to seem some hard evidence of this. Wouldn't be surprised (actually overjoyed) if GC pulls the same move on pooch as he did on Brandon and fires him Sunday even if we sweep Clarkson. The reasons for firing Brandon were very close to the logic behind firing pooch, aside from Brandon actually being a fair coach with a winning record and championship appearances and post-season success. The teams grades are piss poor from every account I have heard, only worse team in university is football. With Cepis now gone, dissension in the locker room seems worse than any other team on campus. Haven't heard as many problems this year with off-ice issues but they have been prevalent in recent years. Seems to me as though the hockey team hold the title of the WORST PROGRAM IN THE UNIVERSITY. Seems to me as though the 'administrator' of such a program should be replaced, no? When I think about it this way, I can see no way GC can possibly not fire pooch by Sunday evening...

BTW, I have also heard from a decent source that time is up for Mr. Paluch.
Yeah right girl!

Seens odd that all these rumors were flying around earlier today, yet the boards been empty since 1:30 or so.

A strange thought hit me about an hour ago...will there be BG 'fans' rooting for Clarkson tonight? I would hope not, but the fact that it even occured to me is reason for concern. How do the players feel? It's got to be tough.

I don't think we will EVER see BG fans rooting against BG. I would be surprised to see Pooch fired before the end of the season. The AD didn't pull the trigger with Brandon when he lost to Eastern, etc. Doing so would have been truly striking while the iron was hot. But in all honesty, just like the rest of this thread, it's all speculation.

Oh yea...GO BG!!!!!

Indeed.

What real gain is there to cutting him loose over the break?

Sending a message to the players that are thinking about leaving the team that the University wants them to stay here and play. This is one of the most talented teams we have put on the ice in a long time. The team is really under achieving this year. Personally, I want to see what they can do when they are playing for a coach they like and respect. It's the only way we will not end up in the bottom 2 places in the league this year. If the guys are able to have fun in the second half of the season, people in the NCAA will be talking about this team...maybe even fear playing them again.

Just to clear thigs up, the players will be thrilled if pooch gets fired.
However, this "christmas present" may be bitter sweet. If Williams takes over as assistant coach things could get worse. He attempts to come across as a hard ass to the players in order to cover for his lack of knowledge for the game. I despise Pooch as much as the next guy, but a move like this could make a bad situation worse. Sure more players may leave the program this year if Pooch isn't fired, but if Williams takes his place, players just may write off the season and pray to the hockey gods for a qualified skipper in the spring.

We have a qualified interim head coach already on the payroll.

The players know him, everybody likes him and he knows the game.

I think Buddy Powers would be a PERFECT choice to finish the season.

When you're taking orders from somebody else, you have to do what they say. IF he is named the interim coach I hope the players at least give him a chance. There is a reason we have had so many assistant coaches in the last few years. Don't take the way he is as an assistant for the way he will be as a head coach. Who knows, they may be surprised at his ability when he doesn't have 2 hands around his neck controlling everything he does. But then again, if the players aren't willing to give him a chance there's no way he'll succeed.

I saw something interesting in relation to the coaching situation last night. This team was behaving very much like the 2000-2001 team. That's a team that holds a special place in my heart. That team won and took our last trip to the Joe IN SPITE of their coach. They coached each other on the ice, they played FOR each other...and they won...I saw some of the same things happening last night. That brought a smile to my face. Just some food for thought.

Did anyhbody else notice how mush different the power play l;ooked last night? We actually has a forward camped in front of the crease. Was this at the coaches direction, or just the players doing what they know is right?
