BUFFALO, NY University at Buffalo head football coach Turner Gill will
remain on the Bulls sidelines in 2009 and for the foreseeable future after
receiving an extension and increase in salary for the Bulls outstanding
accomplishments this year.
Due to University policy, terms of the agreement will not be released.
Gill, who came to Buffalo in 2006, led Buffalo to its first Mid-American
Conference championship with a decisive 42-24 win over previously unbeaten
and 12th ranked Ball State. The Bulls are currently 8-5 and ready for the
program's first-ever bowl appearance when they take on Connecticut on
January 3rd in the International Bowl in Toronto. Gill has a 15-22 overall
record and his Bulls' claimed a share of the 2007 MAC East title before
claiming it outright this year.
This season has seen Buffalo break its all-time scoring record, post its
first overall winning record since moving up to Division I-A in 1999, having
numerous players break school career and single-season records and saw UB
earn unprecedented national coverage with four appearances soon to be five
with the bowl game on the ESPN family of networks as the Bulls were 4-0 in
those contests.
Of Buffalo's five losses this season, four of them (Pittsburgh,
Missouri, Western Michigan and Central Michigan) came against teams that
have advanced to bowl games, with two of those teams ranked in the Top 25.
³On the day I came here to be the head coach I told my team that one day
we would be successful here at the University at Buffalo,² said Gill. ³Now,
more than ever, I have never been more proud to be the head coach of this
program at this great academic institution. This program has proven it can
win now and it is built to continue to win in the future. I am grateful to
President John Simpson and Athletic Director Warde Manuel for their
continued support and faith in me as a football coach and leader of young
men.
³I additionally want to thank our coaching staff and support staff for
all they have done that has allowed us to have success in our football
program,² said Gill.
Gill's contract will now run through the 2013 season, with a rollover
option each year, and his raise in pay will place him as one of the
highest-paid coaches in the Mid-American Conference. All of the Bulls'
assistant coaches will also see an increase in their compensation.
³I am extremely proud of the accomplishments of Turner, his coaching
staff and his team,² said Manuel. ³They have brought unprecedented attention
to the University at Buffalo and have been great ambassadors for the school.
I am thrilled that Turner will remain as our head coach, and with President
John Simpson, am elated to reward him and his staff for their efforts.²

Turner Gill is overrated in my opinion; he's just a national media darling because of his ethnicity. People like John Saunders should keep their nose out of other schools' business and not try to tell folks who to hire. Buffalo was a flash in the pan in 2008 and will go back to being Buffalo in 2009.

Yeah- he was lousy QB, too. Only got to play QB because of his ethnicity. Yeah, yeah and a student, that's right, only a good student because of his ethnicity. And son- overrated-his mom just talked him up because of his ethnicity. Yeah, and a driver- people only say he can drive because of his ethnicity. Yeah...and black- people like John Saunders only say he's black because of his ethnicity.Trojan1998 wrote:Turner Gill is overrated in my opinion; he's just a national media darling because of his ethnicity. Anyone who could make that once horrendous UB program win, just win even a little, let alone a conference championship is certainly not overrated.
