From an article in the BG News...

"Having one of the best seasons in school history, Omar has easily surpassed the talent level of past B.G great Josh Harris. After sitting behind Harris last season, it seems that Omar absorbed the skills of Harris and added to his own skills."

I don't know about that....yet. Harris could run the ball much better than what Omar has done. Omar has better passing skills, no doubt.
Omar certainly has learned the proper leadership skills from Josh. But to state he has "easily surpassed the talent level of Josh" is off base.

I saw that too, and shook my head a bit.
I think we all hope he'll blossom into "the greatest", there are still a couple of other former greats who you could argue for.

Mike,

I agree with you... we love what Omar has done in an amazingly short time..and I don't doubt that he picked up a great deal from playing behind and observing Josh...but the surpassing of talent bit is a "bit overstated". They're 2 different types of QB's for one thing... O-4 's more of a "pure" QB where J-5 would do what it takes to get the job done, either by throwing, running....or catching the FB.... (Right, UT?)

Yes Omar is a great talent...Yes Omar is showing us signs of being one of the best ever at BG...But, until he beats Terdledo and NIU and wins the West, Josh Harris today is the better player.

For all Omar has done for us, I have STILL yet to see him put the team on his back and lead us to victory in a closely contested ball game. Harris did this against WMU 2 years ago, against NIU, UT, NW, and Purdue last year, etc. There have been many good QBs who fold like origami birds when the pressure is on. This season we really haven't been in that sort of situation. We either blew everyone out, or it would've taken a miracle for us to come back. OU & NIU were way up. Against UT he did his job, but the defense couldn't buy a stop...of course Omar looked terrible in that 3rd quarter :(

I wouldn't wish for a close nailbiting game against Memphis, but I expect it to be close. I really hope we see Omar rise up late in a close game against a quality opponent.

Let me state the point that Mr. Riddle is a brand new writer and it's a column. With some time he will learn not to make comments like that :D

"To the optimist, the glass is half full. To the pessimist, the glass is half empty. To the project manager, the glass is twice as big as it needs to be."
