Presidential search update

Post by ZiggyZoomba »

From today's Toledo Blade:

Bowling Green State University is seeking public input about its next president.

The university’s search committee will hold a public forum at 7 p.m. tomorrow (11/13) in the conference room of the Wood County District Public Library, 251 North Main St.

It will be an opportunity for community members to share their thoughts on the characteristics, background, and experience they would like the next BGSU president to bring to campus.

More information about the presidential search is available online at http://www.bgsu.edu.

(WTOL) - Dr. Carol Cartwright has been named president of Bowling Green State University. She had been acting as interim president since July 21.

Cartwright's salary will be $375,000 a year, BGSU confirms.

Ugh. Is this really the best we can do & do we want 2 more years of this? By the way, how much did the University spend on a search committee related to the Presidential search?

The Sentinel Tribune story also contains this little gem:

"Stopping the presidential search at this point will cost BGSU about $100,000, BGSU officials said."

Nice to know we have the cost of two instructors for a year to throw away...

How much would we keep spending to keep it going?

Good question, but not necessarily the one I'd ask. I'd ask why we need a damned consultant to find a president anyway. I know everyone else does it this way, but an ad in the Chronicle of Higher Education and the board of trustees working hard to look through the applicants could save money. Everyone else has to save money, save money. People are losing their jobs left and right at this place. But as always the cuts aren't being distributed evenly or fairly.

I agree completely about not needing a consultant. I was just asking because I rather spend less money appointing her as president than going on to spend more money looking for someone else. Regardless, it's all money BG doesn't have and working in the College of Tech., I know the damage it's causing.
