OSU Weekend
OSU Weekend
People have been remarkably quiet about the upcoming games. Are the students back on campus yet or is it going to be a morgue at the game?
OSU is on the weakest 8 game winning streak I have ever seen.

Big names will bring out the community but I don't think you'll see the normal student crowd. And let's be honest, even the biggest fans (like myself) are pretty disappointed in how this season has gone.

I'm a casual hockey fan, at best, but I do plan to come out to the game this evening. It will be the first game for me this year. I just jumped on the board to see how we were doing, and am disappointed to hear Cepis left the team. He was exciting to watch last year.
I don't know enough about hockey in general, or our program in particular, to clamor for a coaching change, but the surface evidence certainly makes it seem warranted.
Still, I'll be there for tonight's game. Let's take down the Buckeyes.

It looks like a big winter storm is going to hit Friday night into Saturday, so that could impact the plans of many students returning this weekend. Keep that in mind.sbkbghockey wrote:Dorms open this weekend (I think Sunday) But I expect most of the off campus and local students to be there so it shouldn't be as dead as some games during breaks. Saturday will probably have higher attendance as more off campus students start returning.
24. Quality provider of the truth, for better or for worse.
Snow is already falling pretty good and has been for several hours in Sylvania. Supposed to be 6-10" total, last I heard. I never figure we'll get what they predict, but still could be in for at least 4-5" over the night into tomorrow.bgsufalcon24 wrote:It looks like a big winter storm is going to hit Friday night into Saturday, so that could impact the plans of many students returning this weekend. yeah idk it was snowing when I wrote my post...this will also hurt attendance especially from fans and students that travel to BG games from Lima, Freemont, Findlay, Toledo, etc...bgsufalcon24 wrote:It looks like a big winter storm is going to hit Friday night into Saturday, so that could impact the plans of many students returning this weekend. Yep students cannot return to their dorms until noon on Sunday. Still, if I had money for a motel room i would come, but.......bghockeyfan wrote:And considering res life charges a BS $70 fee for students to stay in their own dorm, well needless to say the campus student turnout will be pretty poor.

Does the major and game misconduct for checking from behind mean Dalpe can't play tomorrow? He's their top freshman and a good candidate to turn pro early.
I wasn't there so I can't say anything about how they played. Was the defense that brutal in the first half of the game or was it Spratt?
Sucks to have our best offensive output of the season and still lose. At least the power play seems to be rolling.

it was a misconduct
The major was announced as a game misconduct, so he will just miss the rest of Friday's game...now if it was really a game disqualification, he'll miss tomorrow.
The defense was, as they always are, a huge problem for the team, but Spratt didn't help matters either. It was probably 50/50 at this point. There is one specific defense pairing that is going to send me to an early grave or running to get even more hair dye to cover the grays!!
Jimmy has had a problem all year of guarding the posts and that was specifically the problem on the first OSU goal, most of the rest went over his shoulders, which also shouldn't be a surprise. Before anyone gets their panties in a bunch, I'm not slamming Jimmy, it was an off night for him...he is NOT the sole reason we lost this game tonight and isn't the sole reason that we are in the position we are in at this point in the season.
Quite honestly, I wasn't all that impressed with the Bucks. They are big and can turn the speed on but they seemed to be playing "down" to the competition. The game was never really in doubt after the first period...
Which brings me to another point...Is it just me or did the team seem to come out VERY flat to start the second period? This irritates me to no end.
The Power Play is still a HUGE problem. Yes, the team (or should I say Nick Bailen) scored two PP goals, but that 5 minute major PP was a COMPLETE disaster! I think I counted 3...yes 3 shots on goal in that 5 minute span with a lot of pressure in our end as well as giving up a Shorty. As a matter of fact, our PK shortly after the 5 minute major expired had more offensive pressure than the PP did. Yes, the game was well out of reach at that point, but it's discouraging.
I'm not impressed at all by what I saw...of course, those of you reading this board on a regular basis shouldn't be surprised. It's the same story, different game. NO creativity, Poor defense, NO coaching...Let's hope tomorrow is the start of something new. I'd suspect we'll see Eno in goal. I hadn't realized how "quick" his feet are...something I'll be sure to watch as the games go on. Not bad for someone recovering from a major ankle sprain.
GO FALCONS!!!

Re: it was a misconduct
Heartless Hockey. That's exactly what we played tonight. There was no passion, no sense of team, just bodies on the ice. After the 6th goal, more than half the bench turned and looked at Eno before Paluch even told him to go in. That says something to me.TheKa wrote: Quite honestly, I wasn't all that impressed with the Bucks. They are big and can turn the speed on but they seemed to be playing "down" to the competition. There was a definite difference in the team's intensity once Eno came into the game. all of a sudden they were skating faster and hitting harder. At least we thought it looked that way from the student section. Something else occurred to us tonight also, jimmy's part of the game was a six to two diasater, whereas Nick's part of the game was a two to three game with one of those two being an empty netter. As far as I can see from this little nugget, If Eno starts tonight, we win.
One more thing, I realize the idea of the man-advantage of pulling the goalie when you're down big. However in the last five years I cannot recall a single time this strategy has worked to our advantage. The entire arena know the empty net goal is coming as soon as the goalie steps off the ice. As a poster alluded to a week or two ago, Einstein defined insanity as repeating the same action over and over while expecting a different reaction. Since I've not in recent memory seen this strategy work, yet see it happen at almost every single game, I must conclude that Scott Paluch is insane. Furthermore, if he is retained after this season, I will be forced to further conclude that our administration is insane. Unless of course the result they are getting is the result they in fact want to see.
Ouch, it has been a very rough four/five winters.
Yeah right girl!
