Second-Half Collapse....AGAIN

Post by BGSU33 »

Tied at 33 at halftime, outscored by 24 in the second half. Yep, sounds about right. What the hell is the deal with our second-half performance (or lack thereof)? Can we just keep the guys on the bench during halftime instead of going into the locker room and tell them it’s just a really long media timeout? This is getting ridiculous....

The same thing happened to our football team this year and everybody said it was lack of discipline. What is it with coach Orr and the boys? In the middle of the second half, KSU held BG scoreless for 8:19. We can win every game at home but there is nothing to be excited about at all unless we can make a better showing than that on the road. If you think about it, when we have succeeded on the road in the past it has been because of Anthony Stacy, Daniels, John Reimold, Almanson, that type of play or go to guy that can silence the crowd or carry a team. Our senior leadership consists of being of Miller and Clements who both have had on and off the court problems.

I think Chris can be that player. He is starting grow into a great talent and we should look to him for more scoring. I like the idea of inside out with our guards shooting ability. But from what I saw in the Buffalo game they acted like they did not want to give Chris the ball in the second half which commenced out "meltdown". They went away from what was working to try something else and did it at the cost of a 20 point lead. We have to stop getting comfortable and go for the jugular in the second half.

Nate Miller plays too much one on five ball and shoots too much to pass the ball to Chris. He loves to watch the shot clock swine down and then let it fly.

I was flabbergasted when I got my ESPN Mobile Alert for the final score. 15 points in the 2nd half??? That's less than 1 point per MINUTE. What a piss-poor effort. I wonder if this team will win one game on the road, not counting neutral site games.

I said it in some other thread. I was hoping I'd be wrong, but there is nothing to get too excited about this season. We're a .500 team at best.
I know I'll be pegged as a pessimist, but I'm just being a realist. Orr is not a miracle worker. Give it a couple of years. As long as there is improvement, I'll take it. Hell, we've waited 40 years for a bid...what's another 1-2 years? Just face it this year folks...we ain't that great.

Seems this guy ruined his BG City Schools education by heading to tOSU. It's sad, really.

I'm wondering the same thing, personally.

FWIW, we have road games against 5-9 Northern Illinois, 3-11 Central Michigan, and 2-13 Toledo. If we can't beat CMU or Toledo, we won't win a road game all year more than likely.

On the flip side though, will we lose at home this year? We have 8-5 Miami, 8-7 Akron, and 8-6 Ohio coming into AA.

The West has NO teams over .500?! WOW

I told you so...

In April 2008 I warned all of the Falcon hoops faithful that you would NEVER get a better coach than Dan Dakich. BG is such a tough place to recruit to and the fact that DD was able to recruit and develop Keith McLeod, Len Matela, Brandon Pardon, John Reimold, Josh Almanson, etc. and be good for a number of years was remarkable given the facilities, the weather, etc. at BG.

Sure he was tough, but I watched 3 DD teams BEAT Kent on the road when Kent was better than they are now. A DD team would never quit like they did last night. Hopefully the Stroh Center wil enable Coach Orr to recruit some better players - until then, reflect back on the early 2000's and enjoy the memories.

The Dan Dakich teams I knew were never even competitive with Kent State. Or anybody in the MAC for that matter. It's like you're describing a whole different era of falcon hoops.

And yes, welcome to azz.

Personally I think we already have a better coach than DD, and I sure as hell saw plenty of DD teams quit over the years so don't spout that bullshit here. There are too many people on this board that watched too large of a percentage of the games to buy that crap.

As to our 2nd half issues, specifically on the road, I still say it stems from lack of talent. Specifically at guard. We don't have anybody that you can rely on game in and game out to have the ball in key situations. Miller wants to be that guy but he's too turnover prone and cannot shoot. If he's not getting to the rim he's awful.

Not one of our guards can create their own shot, and none of them consistently create shots for teammates either. Until we get guards that can control the ball and run the offense through adversity we will continue to struggle in the second half and on the road.

Maybe Jakubowski becomes that type of player. Maybe Brown does. But right now our upper classmen in the backcourt have not taken on that role, and our younger players have yet to show they can. Bottom line if you need a bucket on this team who the hell do you want them to give the ball to? For the life of me I have no clue who you can count on offensively from one game (hell, half) to another.
