Those going to Mobile
I recently graduated from the University of Alabama, so I'm a lot closer in age to y'all than I am to many of the posters on the football board. Do y'all have any questions on what college students might like to do in Mobile? I realize y'all will be on a tight leash, but if you can get away and sight see a bit, I strongly suggest it. Here a few things that I know y'all will enjoy.
Bring your camera to the Mardi Gras parade! and make sure you get some beads from the floats before you parade. This has always been the highlight of bowl week.
Visit Dauphin Street (bars/restaurants) most of the BGSU fans will be at Boo Radleys Tuesday and Wed. night, along with myself and most of the college crowd in Mobile.
Eat at the Dew Drop Inn or The Brick Pit BBQ (Old Shell Rd.) for lunch or Wintzells Oyster House (Dauphin St.) for great seafood

We get all of our meals for free I believe and when in the hotel, I don't think we can just get up and leave. Also, for the parade, most of us will be marching so the camera and beads are out. The tight leash just got even tighter
I'm sure we will get an itinerary that tells us we have no free time to do anything...

just bring a disposable camera and keep it in your pocket. You'll have a long down time before the parade where you can check out the floats and the other bands that will be marching. Trust me on that. Also, you'll be feet from the floats, so just walk up to one and ask them for some beads before you march. As you're marching, the people behind the barricades will be handing you beads, if you're on the outside. Also, this is not a "main street" "homecoming" parade. This is MARDI GRAS! So have fun and don't worry about that leash. Enjoy yourselves.
As for food, I can understand that. For entertainment, go to Dauphin Street. I had the opportunity to meet a lot of fun band members from Miami Ohio. They were having a great time at Boo Radleys.

Bama, I understand where you're coming from, but the band cannot break formation during the parade. I know this is Mardi Gras, but there are some things I just don't see happening (i.e. taking or throwing of beads during the parade). While we don't have a schedule yet, if we are going to have a ton of down time while waiting to our step off, I will make sure I have a camera with me. If we get some free time, you will defintly see me at Boo Radleys partying it up. I'm looking forward to the trip, and having a good time. I am hoping we get some down/free time so I can get out and see the town. If you get a chance, look me up. Find the Euphoniums (baritones) and ask for Goofy or the "Old Guy" (I'm really not that old, just the oldest in the section). See you in a little more than a week.

Jess, if nothing else you and I will go out. I want to do as much as I can while I'm down there too. My gut feeling is that there won't be a shortage of people to see Mobile with. It's offical (if it wasn't already) I have
Bowl-itis. I can't wait to go, and getting all the info today only makes that worse

Technically, bowl-itis would be an inflammation of the bowl. Let's hope you don't have that. What I believe you have is bowl fever. A heightened sensation of expectations and near euphoria brought on by an upcoming appearance at a college football bowl game.goofyeuph wrote:Jess, if nothing else you and I will go out. This bogus medical definition was brought to you by the letter U and the punctuation mark ^.

Bowl Fever, Bowl-itis, Bowl-phylsis, whatever it is I have it. I like that word Euphoria though. Sounds an awful lot like EuphoniumZiggyZoomba wrote:

Well, technically, senioritis is an inflammation of the senior in question... which would be rather uncomfortable... but I think we all understand what's going on when we talk about it.
But I feel ya, Chomic... for sure, I don't know how I'm going to study for finals while visions of bowl game trips dance in my head!
Also, the Sesame Street reference makes me think of Jason telling us, "This run-through has been brought to you by the letter one!"

We'll be there for the parade and are looking forward to seeing you guys - we missed the halftime show at the WMU game and REALLY missed your presence at the Temple game!
P.S. I had to "work" during the 1985 Calfornia Bowl and the week leading up to it. Take my advice. Have as much fun as you can!!!!

I'm sorry you missed us at WMU and I'm sure it would have been great if we were at Temple. I'm really glad that you are going to be able to see us in Mobile. You might be interested that we are also playing at the Pep Rally after the Parade. Hope to see you down there.1987alum wrote:FMB members:

P.S. You ain't gotta tell me twice to live it up and enjoy. If I've learned nothing else in 4 years in the FMB it is to enjoy the opportunities that are presented to me, whether they musical or enjoying the friendship of my marching family. I've enjoyed my previous time with the FMB, and looking forward to enjoying a great time next week as I finish my time in the FMB. I Love Band!!!!

It's always really great to hear Falcon fans' appreciation and anticipation of the FMB. It's definitely nice to know that our show is not just a bathroom break between halves for everyone besides the band parents and friends.
We put a lot of hard work into our performances and pay attention to so many details regarding our dress, conduct, technique, etc., and knowing that so many people look forward to seeing and hearing us makes it not feel like we do it all for nothing. Thanks for the encouraging comments!!
See you in Mobile!!
