How about the first students and/or rowdy people that show up all sit in the front row, then stand up when the game starts, so that everyone behind them will have to stand up, thus creating the much talked about "student section"

Honestly though it would be nice to have an actual student section that actually chants and cheers. Lets have a good showing for our national audience. I hate being embarrassed

My God. I remember having to get to AA two hours before game time and having to fight for a spot on the court. And get this - this was only a few years ago!

I don't give a s**t if we suck, or we're world-beaters. The bottom line is, you get there early, and you cheer your AZZ off. Period. Oh, and if you notice that the people behind you aren't doing the same, you turn around, look at them menacingly, and yell at them until they get the friggin' picture. If they are unwilling to get the picture, they'll get mad and leave. Screw 'em. Students or not, they shouldn't have been sitting in the student section, anyhow.

If you are on the sidelines, GROW A PAIR. Put people in their place. I knew numerous beautiful women while I was at BGSu that obviously had bigger cajones than anyone who is currently attending this great institution now. Saxy, would you care to step in here, for crying out loud?

I don't think the people on the sidelines yelling are going to help. They try every game and get laughed at by the entire crowd. Actually, if the ones who try getting people to stand up sat down, I'm pretty sure everyone else would stand.

Im with metz here, i think, correct me if i got you wrong...some of the people that stand in the student section arent even students and some of them (actually one in particular that i can think of) involve themselves to the point where they act like a coach instead of a fan. it's not encouraging to the other students when they act embarrassing. i am all for acting like an idiot and getting involved, but you need to establish a comfort zone for students first to get them involved

No correction needed. I am not someone who should complain as it's probably my fault people stand on the North now anyways, but I've come to realize Anderson will never be like it used to be. Down there standing now I see someone who doesn't go here, someone who has no knowledge of the game of basketball and yells random irrelevant phrases the entire game, and another person who was yelling obscenities during silence at the MAC Tournament that had everyone in the BG section staring at him in shock.

While some people down there are true die hard fans that travel all over America to support the team, the rest of them really ruin the chances of getting the crowd around them excited at all. To quote BGorDeath back when I first started the Animals..."I wasn't really that impressed. Five or six guys just standing there goofing on each other is what I saw." Unfortunately, people are still looking like idiots and not even cheering 3/4 of the game.

Sorry to those of you down there who don't embarrass the university...you know exactly who you are!

I know who you are talking about and try and stay as far away as I can from them, luckily they only seem to appear at women's games. When I go to games I want to stand, cheer, and watch the game, I truly don't care what anyone behind me is doing or not doing, and I will never attempt to get people to stand, because unlike the people who try and look like asses doing it, I know it doesn't work. And usually when those people show up I go up and sit because I don't want to be around them and they prevent me from watching the game

I have never understood why some equate standing to showing support and sitting to apathy towards a team. I can be just as supportive sitting as I can standing. Having a section for those who want to stand the whole game is fine, as long as it does not conflict with those who want to sit. Anderson Arena does not allow that to happen. Hopefully that issue will be addressed in the Stroh Center. The worst place to sit in Anderson Arena is the first three rows on the upper East side. When the lower East side bleachers are full and people are standing you cannot see a thing. The only way to fix that issue is to remove the top three rows on the lower East side. I think that is what we may have seen in a renovated Anderson Arena. That gives a clear line of sight to those sitting upstairs. It also pulls things back a little from the baseline and may have given enough room to bring press row down from the rafters in on the floor. It also would have created some much needed separation between playing surface and fan areas.
