Huh?
Paluch was trying to change the way Cepis plays the game. Exactly what he was doing, I don't know. Only complaint I had against the kid was his tendency to hold onto the puck too long.
He might have been trying to turn him into a better defensive player. I really have no way of knowing what went on, but I know that a lot of skilled young guys in the NHL struggle with becoming more committed to helping out defensively and it often costs them ice time.

I had the same thought when I read that article. I think the puck hogging may have been an issue as well:

BG offense with Jacob Cepis this year: 2.11 goals per game
BG offense without Jacob Cepis: 3.75 goals per game

I'm not defending Paluch here. I'm convinced he needs to go for the betterment of the program. When you look at the number of players who have left early in the last few years it is appalling. We're not talking about guys who are jumping to the NHL but transfers (even to DIII) and ECHL contracts.

If Cepis thinks another team will want him to hog the puck and play poor Defense then have fun trying to find one Jake. While puck handling skills are great, Hockey is a team sport, passing skills and helping out on defense may not seem like it, but they are as important if not more important than being able to take the puck end to end. of all the players that have left BG or decided not even to come to BG, this is one BG is better off without!

I've been thinking more about the dump and chase. That's not the kind of game that Cepis plays. He's a small guy so grinding it out along the boards isn't gonna work for him.

At least a few WCHA teams have Olympic sized ice sheets as well, which would benefit a player like Cepis. I know that Minnesota, St. Cloud State, Colorado College and Wisconsin have bigger surfaces, and another school or two may have one as well.

Six of the 10 members of the WCHA play on olympic size ice:
Alaska-Anchorage, Minny State, St Cloud, Minny, Colo Col and Wiscy

Oh I am so happy that Little Miss European is gone. She shot the puck every time she had the puck felt that she was the only player on the ice. She is way to small for the WCHA. Look we still have our best two players; Dan and Dave. We just beat down Michigan at Yost. I believe that a trap style defencive coach could help us...look at Alaska. I never understood why everyone loved the Ceptic Tank. Is garbage in his own zone. Sexton is about the same size. He skates just as well can dangle just as well, makes his linemates better, is great on the PK. Let's not worry about our program being in shambles celebrate that we aren't WMU.
Dave Ellett is a hero. A Bowling Green Falcon and a Former Jet and Maple Leaf. What more can a Winnipegger ask for.

I agree, he's going to get leveled in the neutral zone in the WCHA. And I'd love to see a neutral zone trap defense combined with an offense with more shooting and screens infront of the net instead of all the cycling and dump and chase.

That's exactly the attitude we DON'T need on the varsity squad. The kid left because he thought it was best for him. Let's wish him well and move on. I remember BGSU hockey fans to be classy 99% of the time. I guess i'm seeing the other 1%.

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."
